I know how to turn on my computer, connect to internet, and find the muskie boards, but how do I reformat my pictures I have downloaded to decrease the file size enough to be able to upload to the boards????  I have tried everything except probably the obvious.  ANY SUGGESTIONS?  Other than throw the whole computer at the next muskie that follows and don't hit, then I won't have to worry about file size.

You will need photo software. Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Picture It!, or like software will allow you to edit the photos to the file size you need. Most PCs come with some sort of imaging software, look into your installed programs and see what you have. If nothing, then either download one or head to the Best Buy.

There are several programs available that let you adjust the quality level of jpegs. This is probably the easiest way to get file size down. The other thing you may want to do is crop and resize the images. Any method you choose will be a few steps. Depending on where the photos are originating, there may be other options. If you have a digital camera, they often come bundled with software capable of cropping/resizing/adjusting quality level. It all comes down to what software you have available, and how much time you want to put into it.

If you just have a couple pics you are dealing with, send them my way, ill fix em up, and send them back to you. email: [email protected]

If all else fails, do a search on www.google.com for "resizing pictures" or something to that affect.

I have Imaging for Windows by Kodak, but can't get it to do what I want.  I also have an Olympus digital camera, that came with a disk full of stuff. Thanks for the help, I'll just keep trying things untill I do something that works or stop in at the local best buy or radio shack and let them talk me into something else to spend lure money on.

Check on the Olympus disk for Adobe Photo Deluxe. My Olympus came with it, and I am pretty sure it will do what you want. If you do have it, but cant seem to get it figured out, let me know. I have a copy I can install and try to lend some more assistance.

SWORRALL and SPIEG, thanks for the help and info.  Turns out my camera has a resize option in it.  Funny what you find if you read the WHOLE book.  Took me 2 months to do it though.  This will get my pictures down to 75KB, but I think I will purchase another software program to play with.  The disk that came with the camera didn't have anything like that on it, just the acrobat reader.  Thanks again, and excuse my computer ignorance, I just know how to make it do what I need it to.  Now I need to get me a fish to take a picture of this week!!!!

If you have Imaging by Kodak, open that program, go to tools, click on 'Scan options', and select the 'good display quality and small file size' option, then try downloading pictures at that setting. Also, look into your camera settings. Most digitals allow for three settings, Ultrafine, fine and medium, or similar. Set the camera to it's middle setting and see what the picture file size is by right clicking on the photo when downloaded, the click on 'properties'. If the file size is still too large, go to the lowest setting.

You may also try 'save file for internet' if you have that setting, it will compress the file enough many times to upload to the site.

OK, I have the Kodak Imaging figured out now that I send the scan to it instead straight to a file and reset the options.  And I can resize on my camera before I download them to the computer.  Can get them all small enough to post on this site, but not others, oh well-it's a start.  Now I'm gonna hit the water for a couple days and see if I can get something to take a picture that is worth uploading.  Thanks again for the help!

Lone,
If you are trying to put photos on MuskyHunter and MuskieCentral, the pictures on those sites have to be photos from the web with a URL, not just digital photos. At least that was the case a couple of months ago when I got black and blue trying to do it.
