| Well, if I can do it you can do it, too.
Last night I sat down to replace the drag washers and totally clean/lube a 5500c3. Man I was ready - I had printed out the reel specs and had some instructions that came with the new Smooothie washers. Threw the cats out in the yard and sent the kids to bed. Laid everything out on a clean desk with lots of bright light. Used a degreasing solvent made for firearm actions to clean out the old gunk - worked great, especially in the teeth of the gears.
Took me 2 hours and 45 minutes!!! I'm going to do another tonight and I bet I'm done in about an hour. I believe that someone who is quick can get it done in about 30 minutes.
It was really pretty easy, and I encouarge anyone who is apprehensive to give it a shot. Just be organized and have the right specs in an exploded diagram. |

Ive never torn down a c3, but I can say the c4s are just as easy. Just go slow the first time, and pay attention to the orientation of parts (washers in particular). Everything else is self explanitory! |

| 30 minutes! Heck I can do it in 5 minutes top, maybe 10 if the reel is realy filthy. Like the other response said that's one of the nice things about ABU's - they're easy to rip apart and don't have springs that go flying everywhere. Oh ya, I guess working on 20,000 abu's or so kind of helps.
Hang in there Ranger, you'll get the hang of it. |

What instructions with Smoothies..?
I bought some this past weekend from Sportsmans repair when they were at Crazy D show...didn't come with instructions. I just put them in like regular washers...?????
They do make a heck of a difference on drag performance on Abu's....

| Mark, when I get home tonight I'll e-mail a copy of the smoothie instructions I received in an e-mail from Hatteras. They are excellent, including tips on lubrication. They asked I not forward to all, but you are a customer, too. |

| Reelman - 5 Minutes?! It takes me that long just to deal with the cover plate screws. I'll be happy to someday get to 30 minutes. |
