Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Don and Tony called in the results for day one of the first 2003 event for the PMTT. The morning broke NASTY with wind chills in the low 20's. The high for the day was 42 degrees, very cold! 109 teams hit the water under tough conditions, but the fish cooperated well. Duane Landmeier and Steve Rustenberg put a 46.5 and a 38.25 in the bag to take the lead on day one. Matt Polman and John Augustine took a 36.75 and a 36.5 to hold a solid second going into day two. Don and Pat Allison busted a 44" beauty to hold third place looking toward Sunday. The word from the guys today was trolling was key for most, and that one area produced 21 of the 26 fish caught. The early pattern had the fish shallow, but with the cold front, things quickly changed. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/leaderboard/llb.asp?t=103 This will take you to the Leaderboard. Click on the individual teams to see a breakdown of the totals for the day. Watch for a report from Don and Tony, our eyes and ears in the PMTT, tomorrow after the leaderboard finals are up!!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Team 30, Steve Rustenberg and Duane Landmeier put a 35.5" muskie in the net today adding to their first place total yesterday to take the first PMTT Qualifier top trophy. Congratulations to Steve and Duane! Matt Polman and John Augustine caught a 36.75 to hold frimly on to second place. Great job, Matt and John. Steve Imhoff and Clark Bailey added a 39.75 to their 39 yesterday to take third. Dave Sokolowski and Louie Signorilie added a34.5 to their 40.74 to capture fourth. Eric and Steve Genson took two fish today, a 37 and a 38, to take fifth. Big fish of the day went to Lenny Szulc and Tom Olson, netting a 42, which also tagged 11th place for them. An all time PMTT record 49 legal fish were entered, proving that the fish will go despite tough weather and conditions. Watch for Tony Grant's wrapup tonight, and Don's story about the event, as well. Thanks also to Steve Cady and the PMTT for providing the field of contestants for our leaderboard, and Tony and Don for their daily phone reports.

| Hey Everyone,
What an incredible body of water! With the huge cold front coming in on Friday night, most everyone thought the fishing would be slow at best. Just goes to show you what an awesome body of water Lake Shelbyville really is. Last October at the Championship the PMTT set a record with the highest percentage/success ratio and now it holds the record for the most fish caught in a single event with 49.
As usual, Lithia Springs (a cove on the very south east end of the lake) was the hot bed producing the vast majority of the muskies registered. But the winners never even entered the crowded bay all weekend. They decided to stick with the main lake points and beat them with minnow baits. Not only did they win with three fish, but they also boated the largest musky of the event, a fat 46 1/2" on the first morning.
It just goes to show you how impressive of a fishery this lake is. Anyone who fished this event will testify to this. The weather conditions (post cold frontal with a strong east wind) would have shut down just about any other lake in the country, but these reservoir fish seem to be hungry all the time, no matter what mother nature deals them. Anyone who thought of fishing this event and didn't, really missed out. Besides the incredible fishing, a great time that was had by all.
Don't miss out on the next event. Cave Run Lake has always been a top producer during the PMTT events in April. Now, with the event being held on May 17th & 18th who knows how many muskies will be caught. Another record number? Don't wait and find out, there are still openings and entries will be excepted up until one week (the Saturday) before. Come out and be a part of the fun.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Thanks for the report, Tim. I am betting that the cave will be hot as hot can be, and the newly set record may get a challenge. I am hoping to be down there to report on the event, if time allows!
