| Kinda new to musky fishing and wondering what rod and reel setup you guys would recommend if you were gonna have only one. Will be fishing small river on a 14 ft jon boat mostly, and throwing the whole spectrum of lures. would like to keep it under 350-400 dollars if possible. Thanks for any advise. Lots of good info on here! |

| Rod: TI 9' XH
Reel: Calcutta 400D or one of the Revo Toro's. Whichever feels better in your hand. I'd recommend a Lexa 400, but if it's one setup then you want reliability. A broken rod or blown reel is time off the water when you have one setup |

Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | That 400D would be a deal breaker at $340
How about pairing up the Tackle Industries 9' XH (I prefer the split grip) with a Calcutta 400B? Not quite the retrieval speed of the D, but absolutely reliable.

Location: Wisconsin | Buy a nice used rod on here and you should have plenty left to buy a nice reel. TI,Okuma,St.Croix premier can all be had for a pretty decent price. Calcutta 400B or Garcia NACL reel and you should be set. You can find some pretty good deals on craigslist too. I just saw a nearly brand new mojo muskie and Nacl for $225! It's nice to buy a rod made in America too if it fits your budget. Good luck |
