Location: Illinois | My first muskie!!! We fished through some rotten weather! Raised about 20 muskies the first day with Cal Ritchie, then didn't see a fish for 3 days. On thursday, with 3 guys in the boat, and 300 snags later, I yelled "Im hooked up!" My buddy in the back of the boat who assumes I'm snagged, lets a long cast go right over my line. My head almost exploded, and I turned to him and said, "Paul, I got a fish here!" The fish, rather than surfacing, went straight to deep water, so i assumed it was big(but not sure if it was a muskie or pike). About 10 minutes before, the sun came out, and as the fish got about 10 yards from the boat it turned sideways, and looked like a huge reflector. Now the intensity increased 10 fold because we knew it was a muskie. As i turned its head back towards the front of the boat, it launched its body out of the water like it had been electrocuted, slamming into the side of the boat. The fish went under the bow of the boat, and my buddy in the middle was there with the net. he didn't get the net deep enough in the water and was just pushing the fish with the hoop. I was afraid the lure would catch on the net so I told him to back off, I let out a few feet of line, and we successfully landed it on the other side. I was bouncing around the front of the boat like i was walking on the moon. It was no monster, only 42 inches, but to me it was a fish of a lifetime! |
