I went out fishing with my Dad and good friend over the weekend in Northern WI. We had a sucker out that got hit and I was the one up to set the hook. I broke my rod on the hookset and realized a second later that my line broke as well. I was somehow able to grab the last couple of inches of line and hand land a 38 inch muskie. We also filmed the whole thing on our GoPro. I felt like Troy from swamp people, and I think my expression after we net the fish captures the moment pretty well. Warning, there is some adult language so if you're easily offended you might want to mute it.

Yeah, I would have felt really bad knowing a fish was swimming around with a quickset rig in its mouth. Not only that, but I would have always wondered how big of a fish it was. I was shocked when the pole broke but even more surprised the line broke as well. Turned into a great story though.

That funny stuff, I was two boats behind you guys at the landing at dark. I heard you say that you broke the rod, line broke, and you hand landed it, also that you got it all on video. The guy that you were talking with said we will see it on youtube, but here it is. VERY COOL!!

Very cool you were able to get the fish. I was a bit scared at the potential of cutting your hand on the line having to do that, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

There was a lot going through my mind in a short amount of time but I was very conscious of trying to keep the line from wrapping around my fingers. I got a couple small cuts from when it took a small run but it could have been bad if it had wrapped around a finger. It just isn't something I've ever practices and was very lucky to be able to grab the last couple inches of line.
