Location: The desert | I've got a buddy that is looking at going up here next year. He's a multi-species guy, so would be doing a fair amount of walleye and pike fishing, but doesn't mind casting for muskies either. Anyone ever fish here? He's looking at a place right next to Ear Falls. Are there many musky in this area?
He's heard that the walleyes are fairly small (14-16 inch range), but there are a bunch of them. Any truth to this?
How about the pike?
Appreciate the feedback. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | no muskies at that end of the lake, or any realistic chance of bagging one
walleye fishing is as you described...fast and furious, lots of smaller fish on that side
pike are pike...not hard to catch

Location: Almond, WI | Very few muskies on the west side; I do know a couple guys who tried over there and only a couple follows in 4 days. I know someone that goes to that end to walleye and pike fish every year and he does very well; walleyes mostly eater size, pike are tremendous. I've been to the other end and hope to return. We did catch nice walleyes, pike and smallmouth on muskie baits. |

Location: North St. Paul, MN | I've fished both the east and west sections for walleyes. Walleye fishing on the west end is actually better for size. Way more slot fish and over on that end. The east end is an absolute fish factory though. Walleyes 14-16, lots of pike...some big ones, and trophy muskies. The musky fishing can be tough as it's not a high density population. Lots of fun to fish though because of all the walleyes, pike keep you busy, bonus smallmouth, and huge muskies when you can contact them.
*edit- I chase big pike on the west end (McKenzie Bay Area) and have never encountered one musky. For what it's worth, Silver Water Wheel and all there guides in 10+ years of fishing big jacks in the middle section of LS have NEVER encountered one musky...ever and those guys put huge northerns in the boat every year.
Any specifics, i'd be happy to help.
Steve

Location: Elroy, Wisconsin | There are some things you need to consider. Best fishing is Chamberlain Narrows, North and East to Jackfish Narrows. Big fish, 45" and up. Problem is how to fish the area. Camping is not permitted for US citizens.
Options: Houseboat, expensive unless you have six to people. Loose one day getting to the area via houseboat, and one day getting back. five days of fishing.
Chamberlain Narrows Cabins: Very expensive 150 bucks per man, per day housekeeping. Owners rude at times and not helpful.
Andersons Lodge has a couple of outpost cabins in the area, I havn't stayed with those folks and I don't know the prices.
A trip to remember, but you better know how to fish muskies as they can be real tough.

spot on...the NE part of Lac Seul is awesome. Not a numbers game by any means, but it just feels like at any moment you can find a true giant that has never seen a bait in its life. Very, very expensive to stay up there though. And losing multiple days to houseboat travel sucks....I think it took us 7 hours to get from Hudson to Chamberlain Narrows... |

Location: Contrarian Island | I looked into the Anderson outposts cabins up in the NE section and they were spendy, I think they wanted something like $160 a nite and that was just for a roof over your head basically... would love to get back up there tho someday... |

Location: Elroy, Wisconsin | Last time we were there, new did the houseboat trip with four people. Three were accomplished musky people who could smell out good spots during the last week of Aug. 2013. Biggest musky was 49 1/2, one 48, three 47's, 46, 45, 44, 46 hybrid, and some huge northerns on top water. Most of the muskies were on bucktails. Good luck to you.

Location: Almond, WI | We did a houseboat, but didn't go all the way up to Chamberlain, parked it in The Rags instead (East Central if you don't know the lake). We arranged to have the pilot drive the boat and park it there, we took off and fished and found the houseboat later, so really we only lost the drive back. There is more pressure if you go south from there (towards Sioux Lookout), but if you go north (towards Chamberlain Narrows) we saw no muskie fisherman, only a few walleye guys. |

Location: The desert | My buddy is looking at Evergreen Lodge, I think it is called. They've got camper cabins for something like $300 for a week. He's likely taking his daughter and wife, so looking for some fast action. But sounds like the bigger fish are on the eastern end? |

Location: North St. Paul, MN | Depends on "when," but Gary at Evergreen is a great guy and he'll get them on walleyes, pike, and smallies if your friend likes. The biggest issue we had with Evergreen was competition for spots. It gets pretty crowded up near Ear Falls. We used to make the hour run down to McKenzie Bay, wisened up and now stay at Onaway Lodge, which is closer to proximity for where we like to fish.
Like I said previously, we've done really well size wise on the west end VS. the east side. In my opinion more action on the east side, but not near the "pig" walleyes we get in McKenzie and the other bays on the west side.
If your friend ends up at Evergreen, Gary and Pat are awesome...I'm pretty sure he won't be disapointed. |
