Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | Arrived at Spring Bay (such great folks!) late Saturday, but only had a brief time to fish. Sunday brought that nasty cold front and zero action, even for walleye. (My boat partner is no musky hunter, so this trip is multi-species.) Monday morning brought more walleye, this time with guide Steve Amundson. After a trip east some thirteen miles, we limited out on walleyes and caught a few jumbo perch too. Nearly all walleye were small, lots of eaters though. Must admit that it surprised me to find almost no fish of slot limit size.
Monday afternoon and evening took us east, far east. I boated a 38" pike and a 45.5" musky. Lost another 'ski. All three fish were boatside on the figure eight, or just as I was starting the eight. No follows.
Yesterday brought perch fishing in the morning. (Boring, but tasty!) In the evening I fished a few of the spots I'd fished and had seen muskies in the past, but no luck. Moved a bit east and explored until dark.
Today I plan to spend some time on a few of those new spots and hope to catch something to post here tonight.

BTW, I'm surprised to see how the west side of the lake has changed. All the action seems to have moved east. Is this something seasonal, or am I wrong in my perception?

Location: MN | We fished the West side Saturday. Caught a low 40's and moved 4 or 5 others. A couple of those were hot and probably could have been converted. Most of the action was before the clouds broke and wind died mid-day.
I typically like the West side because it seems like it gets less pressure than the East but that was not the case on Saturday. It was packed. We didn't fish a few spots I wanted to because there were guys on them every time we went by. We also got cut off pretty bad on 4 or 5 occasions. I don't let it ruin my day or anything but it sure seems like the fisherman on the V have a lot less respect than other busy lakes in N MN. I'm not sure if it is because of the large amount of metro and out of state guys that fish the lake? There is lots of room to spread out on that lake. If you want to fish a spot someone is on you should cut in behind them not right in front of them. Sorry, rant over.
Good luck up there Yooper and let us know how it goes. |

Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | The pressure is a little different than I'm used to. On Monday some guy pulled within spitting distance of us while we were trying to drift with Lindy rigs. I guess some people just lack basic manners.
Cold front returned today and shut things down, though I did hear a couple guys say they had follows. Hoping they turn on tomorrow.

Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | No more muskies, but I did catch a couple more nice pike, a 32" and a 39.5" I left a bit disappointed over the low numbers; still, I caught some nice fish, enough to make a nice trip.

Location: Minnesota. | Nice fish padre'. You put your time in and did your best. That's fishing...
There's no excuse for rudeness on the lakes, especially a lake as big as the "V". Unfortunately that memo doesn't pass thru some boneheaded skulls. I've turned away at some locs. myself at dark b/c some boat was working w/o lights after dark-thirty and you're motoring in.
Sad but you just find another spot. Who knows, when that happens and you're forced away "sometimes" you stumble on a goodie that you never knew about.
Still, it _isses me off but like you it won't mess up an outing.
Congrats on the nice fish. Hope you had good company.
