| What works best to remove old grease/oil from reel gears and other parts? Simple solution of soap and hot water, or, some sort of solvent? Thanks. |

Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | I have always used WD-40. I soak the part down with the spray and agitate with an old toothbrush. Make sure you wipe all the excess WD-40 off the parts when done cleaning them. Then I apply either the appropriate grease or light oil before reassembling. I have done this for over 30 years and it has always worked well for me. |

Location: NeverNever Lake | My favorite is CRC quick drying electronic cleaner. It works extremely fast and is safe for all the plastics that are in most of todays reels. With the straw in the nozzle it blasts all the grease out in reel time.

Location: Holly, MI | Reeldoctor or anybody.. I usually back my drags way off for winter storage. Is this nessecesary? helpful? doesn't matter?
I lost my first spring steelhead from a drag that was way too loose. Went screeming down river then took to the air and shook me loose. Was pretty but dissapointing and a lesson learned. |

| lobi, Its always a good idea to back off your drag when not in use. They can get stuck in that possition or freeze up the washers. |

Location: Eau Claire, WI | What has been mentioned above all works well, personally I use a small amount of lighter fluid on a rag, paper towel, Q-tip, etc. |
