I will be off the water this month with summer help back to school and we have more walleye & crappie anglers than muskie hunters this month, but we will have several groups out casting throughout September so I will do my best to keep conditions up to date.

Bloom has been an issue in different areas, but has been changing day to day and even the same day. Areas that were bloomy the morning of 9/3 were cleared up a lot the same evening.

Wind will be your friend searching out clear water. Be prepared to do a little boat riding if you must fish cleaner water. Fish will still be present in bloom so you can count on fish being in your historically productive rock points, sunken rocks, saddles and spines, etc. A couple figure 8s will ensure you give the followers you cannot see a chance to eat. I have never had any luck in weedy areas with bloom present so those would be off my milk run entirely if there is bloom.

Labour Day weekend produced action for those fishing out of the resort. Bucktails were hot to start with and then topwaters joined the show. Rock structure was far and away more productive for those reporting activity.

Water temps were low to mid 70s in shallow bays with bloom and sub-70 other areas.

I firmly believe September offers some of the BEST casting opportunities of the season on Lake of the Woods. The summer fishing pressure has dropped to next to nothing in comparison to July and early August so your offerings are often going to be the best chance they get to enjoy a nice light snack.

If I could only cast one month of the season, all else being equal, it would be September. It really does kill me softly not being able to get on the water.

Good luck to all this month. Let us know what you are finding out there.

Cheers.

Full moon produced some good action, but the actual catching has been slow. Fish up to 49" boated. mostly rock, but one boat did well on a shoreline with some beach. Seeing 6 fish in 100 yards, including one their guide called a "lifetime achievement" fish. Three of the fish hit (not the giant), but they did not boat one that day.

Bucktails and rocks have been the most common report. White bucktails were the only thing bring up fish on one boat.

Cold front moving in. 50 degree air temp this morning and it wont get much warmer for many days. North and Northeast winds from 15-20 the next couple of days.

Not a great way to finish the week after a gorgeous beginning leading into full moon.

Fish are fish and still have to eat sometime. Hoping those that fish this front get rewarded. All it takes is one cast!

Water temps mid to upper 60s pre-front. We will see how much they come down with lows into the 40s for awhile.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Cold front came through last week and made life tough for muskie anglers. Saturday, Sunday and Monday's action was good, but the air temps dropped 20 degrees and the wind blue 20-30 MPH from the north, east and NE for a couple days.

Wednesday and Thursday was very tough. Water temps at the surface dipped to the low 60s and even into the high 50s with overnight lows in the 30s.

Action picked up on Friday, but was a mixed bag. One boat landed 3 fish and saw nothing else. Weeds and spinnerbaits. Another angler landed a 50" on a rock bar on a bucktail that went around multiple times on the 8 before eating.

Another boat saw 9 fish total that day (mostly rock related), but I never asked about how many they caught, if any.

Bloom has been moving around with wind changes, as usual.

A few tried trolling over the weekend and didn't have anything to show for their efforts this time around.

Mostly walleye and crappie anglers in camp this week so info on action will be limited. Will try to get our guests to keep me posted on the bloom and water temps.

Good luck on the water.

water temp is around 60.The water level is getting close to normal and supposed to drop 4 to 6 inches this week.Algae is still a problem. You definitely have to hunt for clean water unless you like a green boat.Spinner baits are working for us and mainly on saddles leading out to structure.Bears are here eating acorns and bird are heading out.1 week left before closeup.I hate to see it come but theres always next year.

Just got back from Mylie's. Caught the new moon and perfect weather conditions and Wednesday evening the fish were moving. 8 follows 3 caught and 2 lost at boatside in a 3 hour window. When they turn on they are chasing and i dont think it matters what you throw. I had a hit on a shallow invader but switched to a bucktail and they were all over it. As long as the temps hold around 60 i would suspect that will keep up and it looks like a warm spell moving in. The algae is thick in the main lake as the south wind pushed it all up but back in the bays you can find the areas where it's not to excessive. The fish are there i dont think they care as long as it's not too bad.

Managed to get out on the water yesterday from 9am to 7pm. Found 59 degree water in the morning and some as high as 64 later in the day with the sun shining bright during this week's warm front.

Fishing has a bit slower for me, but managed to action on rock related structure. Crank baits got 3 strikes with 1 caught. The two bigger fish (mid 40s) follow a spinner bait and double 10. Both black and orange. Perch was the crankbait pattern that got the action.

With a little wind, there is clean water where you would expect it. On the calm side where it is blowing out and away from shore. Lots of great fishable water yesterday in relatively light winds. An increase in wind velocity will only help move some of it around.

I LOVE September casting....been forever since I have made a September casting trip. We saw a few walleye boats and two other boats casting. The two boats casting were not seen until after 6pm. Had the lake to ourselves!

That will be it for me until trolling time in a few weeks. Will try to keep up to date with things conditions wise. The long range forecast is not looking great past the middle of October at the moment. That can and will change some..hopefully for the better.

Good luck on the water! It is the most gorgeous time of year to be on the lake.
