We just recently put a new terrova 80 trolling motor on our boat and on saturday it appeared it was dead as it wouldn't only stay on for a few seconds and then turn off and changing the speed wouldn't do anything. Charged it all day sunday and went out last night but the same thing happened. Doing a battery test on the trolling motor says that it is fulling charged. It doens't work with the pedal or handheld remote. It will turn on but if you crank the speed it usually just shuts off and it displays between .3 and .5 MPH when its on so it basically isn't doing anything. I'm a complete novice to this stuff so I'm not sure what to ever check out or if I just call cabelas about it. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

Do you know what gauge wire is used from the motor to the batteries, how far is it from motor to batteries, and what size fuse or circuit breaker is being used, if there is one?

I'm wondering if the motor is getting hot and shutting itself off till it cools down. I 'think' they have something that will shut them down if they overheat.

I had that problem and it was the inline breaker from one of the batteries it kept popping when I went to a faster speed.

Is this the first time you have used the Terrova since installing it on the boat or have you used it in the past? Makes a difference in what and where you should check.

sound's like your tripping the breaker the 80 terrova needs a 60 amp breaker.I would look at the size of your breaker in your boat and make sure it's big enough.

It's possible the battry connection itself is poor. I'd at least start there, and ensure the connection is sure/tight.

My guess would be that you need a larger breaker. What size trolling motor did you used to have before upgrading?

I will take a look at a few things. Yeah it has worked fine for a few months. Yes we did have a smaller trolling motor guide trolling motor before. Cabelas did the install so I'm not exactly sure what if they changed anything but I will take a look tonight. Will it say on the breaker the ampage? Thanks for all the replies

If you check it with an amp meter hold it on the side from the breaker to the motor if it drops that is the problem! We figured it out in 15 min on the Woods a few weeks ago thank god for uncle Frank!!
