This may be a dumb question, but I was wondering if playing the radio or any music in your boat would have any affect on the fish? Thanks guys.

I have heard it does? I have seen no logic behind this?
I have had the stereo cranked and still boated many fish.

I'd like to see some true studies on this?

They can see you if you wear bright clothes...That I do believe...

I think you could have a "marching band" aboard as long as you follow 3 simple rules:
1)Rattle Trapp
2)Foot of water
3)If you aint catchin leaves you aint doin it right.

An emphatic NO, it doesn't. I find they seem to respond rather violently to Zeppelin. More tomorrow!!

If Zakk Wylde(black label society, and the writer of all of ozzys solo albums) doesn't scare them, nothing will. I jam to tunes all the time(not too loud) ranging from old school mettallica, reverend horton heat, Fugazi, Danzig, to Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and willie. About the only thing I've seen scare fish is todays poser metal(godsmack, systems of a down etc), and rap.

Good luck in 03!!!

For a time I fished from a boat with cereal bowls over speakers adhered to the hull face down, as well as speakers faced towards the open. I saw no effect at all negative, and indeed found that certain types of tunes seemed to turn follows into takers. No 'study', so this all could be total coincidence, but at least I am sure that there is no negative that could be seen from the tunes.

I actually saw a show about this on Bill Dances show.

He said virtually all voice waves deflect off of the water. He said
that its the big "Thuds" like dropping an anchor in the boat or having
a stereo turned up loud enough to make a thumping noise will scare fish but just about 99% of most talking or music that is not totally cranked up are deflected away.

Just letting you guys know what I learned on the show.

This is a great question WV. I've often wondered that myself, and, figured my time on the water is so limited that I dare not take a chance. I'm also with the MD that the sound of nature is most welcome when I can chase the ellusive ones.

On Seneca Lake one time, I put on a BB King cd and landed two catfish ten minutes apart. They seemed to like the duets with Koko Taylor the best. m

This depends on how you are fishing. Trolling: no problem, crank it up as long as you can hear the clickers. Calm flat conditions: keep the volume down to voice level. Night fishing: same deal, fish seen to be spook easy. Casting windy conditions: No problem with the volume, let the good times roll. Most of the time I have music on in my boat, covers up the jet skies, wave runners and power boats. Also keeps me in a pumped up mood, rock & roll and muskies just go together.
