Hey Guys,

I am putting this out there as I have a buddy that is thinking of buying a Ranger 621 next spring and has always been a Yamaha guy until he got a 250 Etec on his last boat, but is seriously considering the Verado this time around.

From what he has heard is the Verado trolls down better. He will have a kicker, so the trolling down isn't a huge issue, but he walleye fishes a lot and likes the idea of big motor trolling down better.

What kind of mileage are you guys getting with both these motors?

He has a 2010 ETec on his 620 right now and even though the engine itself is bullet proof, it drives him crazy having to add oil every tank of gas. (It's not the cost of the oil, it's the hassle of even having to deal with it. A month on LOTW this year and he went through over 10 gallons of XD100.)

So 100% chance there will a 4 stroke on his next Ranger.

Thanks - Ball Cap

don't get me wrong gas mileage is important but you are talking about a $75k boat and worried about gas mileage? kinda funny. I was in a brand new 621 w 300 Verado over the weekend .. it rocked.. can't go wrong w either I'm sure but that Verado is pretty bad asssssss

No that's not my point, he is not concerned about the cost of gas at all! It's about the range he gets with the boat. He gets frustrated having a 50+ gallon gas tank and having to get gas when the odometer hits 100 miles to be safe.

He is just curious about the mileage between the Etec (where he gets 2.5 MPG) compared to the big 4 strokes.

gotcha, well how does he run the boat? in the "sweet spot" for optimal mileage per gallon or does he run it faster? I don't know but I'm gonna guess both the f300 and Verado are going to be neck n neck in the sweet spot... I doubt it matters what boat/motor he gets...100 miles in any boat you are gonna have to fill up..

Yah BNelson, he is not easy on the throttle. WOT most of the time ... So I suspect whatever he ends up with even a 4 stroke, he is going to be filling up more often than he likes! Ha

The Verado DTS system is really nice. Both are great engines, so it will come down to the fine details.
