How does everyone like the Fuji Palm support reel seat on the new St. Croix Legend Tournaments? I'm looking for a new jerkbait rod, I'm running an old Fenwick HMG right now, 6'9" with a 13" handle. After running my Tackle Industries rods with an 18" handle, my old stuff just doesn't feel right anymore.

I usually have 2 fingers in front of the trigger in a normal rod, but my middle finger gets sore after a while so I switch to one finger in front of the trigger. On my jerkbait rod I find I've been putting three fingers in front if the trigger just to try to get a bit more handle out the back to jam in my armpit. Looking at a LT "The Jerk" right now and wondering if anyone has an opinion on the new seat.

Also any comments on the rod itself? The only LT I've used is my dads Top n Tail and I love it.

I really like it, though it does take a bit to get used to the way it feels in your hand. Some people sure don't care for it, so maybe see if you can try someone for a bit. Now, when I go back to my other LT rods with the traditional grip, they seem strange for a bit.

After doing some more research, a lot of people are talking about filing the trigger off an casting rod and how similar it is to doing that. I'm gonna try throwing my Revo toro on one of my trolling rods and see how that feels tomorrow.

Tried the new palm handle for a while to give it a fair shot, but ended up going back to the traditional trigger. Personal preference. If you don't have access to a rod with the palming trigger, take a triggerless trolling rod and either zip tie, or hose clamp a piece of wood, metal, plastic or whatever you can get to closely mimic the palm trigger. Try that for a while... should give you an idea if you want to pursue it further.

Personally I think the St. Croix Legends are the best rods out there and are all I own after sifting through other brands over the years. All of my Legends share one common thing...I ground off the triggers down to nubs with a Dremel and for me they are much more comfortable that way. Are triggers on casting rods a hold-over from the dinosaur age when the trigger was used to maybe help hold the rods more securely in rods holders while trolling? I can't see any other use for them...

What kind if reel do you guys like with this grip? I went out and checked on one if my trolling rods and my 401TE felt better than an NACL to me. I'm thinking a 301D might be perfect.

Have a 301D on my Slingblade and really like the feel and balance of the combo.

I ended up getting a Classic Jerk. The handle is about 3" longer than the handle on my old jerkbait rod, it was enough to make the difference I was looking for. The palming reel seat felt good, but I'd really like to fish one before buying one. I also prefer the shorter rod.
