OK, have an elite 7 HDI, bought the Lake Insight Pro map chip and I'm buzzing around the lake....

The cursor (my boat) wont stay "forward" and the map doesn't advance itself across the screen, I have to manually move the crosshairs for the map to prepopulate and stay over my "boat"...make sense? its maddening!!

I searched the menu on the unit and didn't find it, course could have seen it, just didn't know what I was looking for.
I called Lowrance and the fellow suggested an update.....I'm no expert, but I got the vibe that an "update" is the preferred/typical "canned" response. I'm not sure this unit is that old market wise, would seem to me that a compatible mapping program would be "preset" to function accordingly.

So, 2 things:
1) it doesn't need an update and someone can help me in the menu/settings
2) needs an update and I don't have a card downloader thinger, just a thunbdrive...what do I need to get to download this update from da net?l

thx much

Thanks, that function I did find, was on Plantan yesterday and near Cass today, it took me back to plantan and I had to move the crosshairs over to the east, than I saw the "return to vessel" and voil'a it brought me right to my current location......but then still moving around the new lake, it wouldn't follow the boat.....do I have to keep doing that?.....return to vessel?

If you simply hit 'exit' will that remove the cursor/crosshairs and follow your track? That's what I do with my HDS and LCX units. If the cursor is on the screen with crosshairs, you are not on the active screen.

The updates make a huge difference, especially with the map chip reading function. I would recommend uploading the update. They DO NOT come with the updates installed.Just go to the lowrance site, click on the update link and choose elite 7 hdi. Download the update to your computer, extract it from the zip file and put it on a micro sd card. Put the sd card in ypur unit and turn it on. It finds it and uploads it automatically. I use hot maps on mine but before I updated it they wouldnt work right or at all. I will tell you that I run the lowrance maps on my councel because the prossesor of the unit doesnt quite keep up on the map advance whe running 55mph, then when I am trolling I will switch it to the navionics chip.

Elites don't have an 'exit' button.

anytime you use your cursor to move around, the unit will lock onto wherever the crosshairs are and you will need to press 'return to vessel' for the unit to lock back onto your position.

Greg, were you ever able to correct this problem? My Elite 7 HDI started doing the same thing. I may have inadvertantly hit the wrong key and brought this upon myself, but I can't seem to get out of it.
