What it the best chip to buy for Canada and specifically LOTW? I bought a new Lowrance HDS 9 Touch and HDS 8 network and am looking at the two Navionics premium and or platinum chips. Is there any material difference?

I have an elite 7HDI and just bought the lake insight US only map. When I asked the dude at cabelas (Rogers) what I needed for Canada, he asked what area?
I told him SAB bay, he took out a demo chip of the US only and it INCLUDED that portion of Canada, so didn't need to buy an additional chip.

might want to see if your LOTW area is included on the US chip

Get the Navionics North premium and the Lowrance chip. You can share mapping between the two units so you only need one chip in each unit and this way you can have the both.

The platinum chip offers the 3d mapping, and the ability to upload your sonar logs to Navionics to Navionics to "build your own mapping." There is no difference in information pre loaded

Get the Nav + if you decide to venture further into Canada you can add that lake to the chip. Nav+ gives you SonarCharts the same as Platinum but isnt area specific. But if you want plug and play, get the Platinum with SonarCharts

Link to more info http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en it also shows the boundaries for each chip.

Lake Insight Pro V14 for mapping up to the Narrows. Navionics for north of that. You will love the Insight chip.

I just returned a Premium chip to Navionics for a platinum chip. I had an old HotMaps North chip that had LOTW but not in HD. Platinum has 3D but also has "sonar charts" availabilty. The Navionics+ chip would work also. I use an old Lakemaster chip for LOTW in HD that still works in my HDS7. The Insight chip may be close to this. The Navionics HD may not be as accurate. I question the extra contours as "real or fiction". This seems to be a distribution problem because dealers & distributors are trying to unload the older chips. Navionic+ will probably become the future for Navionics. You also have to check the Fish & Chip selection under Views for the HD to work for Platinum and + chips.

So there is no chip that has 1 ft. contours north of Big Narrows correct?
Thanks

Go to navionics.com and use WebApp, choose Platinum or Navionics+, choose North button and also after zooming in to the area click the sonar charts button on the bottom left of the map. This should show the area in HD.
