Location: Tennessee | No access to either reel to handle and currently torn between the two reels. For those with both, which one palms better? |

| I don't think you will be uncomfortable either way. I will say I really like my lexa 400 5.1 for blades. Don't have much time on it, so can't speak to long-term, but if I had to do over I would have more lexa 400 than other reels at this point. |

One thing to note however. If you intend on trolling, many of the low profile reels, including the lexa 400 do not fit in my downeast rod holders. If you will be using the setup for double duty, the Calcutta would be the better choice IMO |

| Have a buddy with a Lexa and a 400d and I have a 400d. I think the shimano palms better but that might be personal preference/hand size etc. For me reels like the 400d where the side plate is in closer to the rod are more comfortable. Might be different for you. |

Location: Planet Meltdown | I have a Lexa 400 on a Sling Blade and it's too big to comfortably palm all day throwing big blades. Can it be done? Sure - will your hands hate you at the end of the day? Absolutely. I was over my buddies place the other day and he has a 400D on either a Sling Blade or a Big Dawg, can't remember and I held that set up - very nice, balanced set up and it felt really good to palm. It felt like I had a better grip than I do with mine but I did not test it on the water. My solution to this problem was in the form of a pistol grip. No more issues palming big reels while pulling blades and I can tell you first hand that it's so much easier on your hands. |

| I held both multiple times and prefer the Lexa. Much more comfortable than my Tranx.
IMO most comfortable musky reel out there is the Curado 300 |

He asked about the 400D not the Tranx. Big difference there.
I'm not real familiar with the Lexa but the 400D palms very easy. If you can't palm that reel you aren't going to be comfortable palming any reel that has some nuts behind it. |

| They are both 14hr reels, the lexa 400 is more narrow than a Calcutta 400b. It is a surprisingly comfortable reel. |
