| I was wondering the advantages and disadvantages of using only straight steel leaders (without a ball-bearing swivel up front) for casting. It seems that many lures have a significantly better action with these leaders, and the bait does not foul on the leader mid-cast. Thoughts? | |

Location: oswego, il | The advantage is weight. I use mostly flouro but if I use anything else its a 105 or 174lb solid wire, snap with and tiring direct to the wire loop on the other end. Good for gliders, jerkbaits and twitch baits. | |

| I use sigle strand for everything, not just jerks, 90lb for the small jerks, cranks, spoons, 127 for light musky stuff, 174 for medium, 240 for the big stuff, way cheaper and more reliable than fluro. | |

| Wire kinks and needs replaced frequently. Takes a bit longer for me to make wire leader compared to crimping a fluorocarbon leader. The only time I really like fluoro is when I want a longer leader and that's not too often. | |
