Location: Vermont, USA | Hi all :
I'm looking at getting a new muskie reel. I have boiled it down to the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur but I can't decide between two.
I've read alot hear about the 6500-C3 - many people seem to use that. However, I'm wondering if a higher speed retreive that you'd get in the 6600-CB would be better ? The C3 has a 5.3:1 and the CB has a 6.3:1.
The CB is also $15 more than the C3 at Cabelas. Does this mean that this is a better reel ?
Any and all thoughts are welcome !
Thank you !!!!!!
Shawn

| It really depends on what you are doing. The CB and the faster gear ratio are good for some applications. Pulling bigger bucktails, crankbaits or spinnerbaits will wear you out fast. Small bucktails, topwater, and jerkbaits would work fine on the fast gear ratio. The C3 and its gear ration is very versatile. |

Location: Pardeeville, WI | I use the 6600CBs and love them. They have the thumbar and have a really fast retrieve. Plus a line clicker.
Ive thought about getting a reel with the lower retrieve but thought about it and decided not to. All you have to do if you want a slower retrieve is to just reel slower. Not to mention you can have a 6600CB spooled at about 50%-75% of line capacity and that slows down the retrieve a bit.
You can always make them slower but you cannot make them faster.
I like to burn baits most of the time anyways.
Also the 6600CB has 4 ball bearings and the C3 has 3.

Location: in the white boat | The CB is definitely worth the money to upgrade. If you don't like the high-speed gears send it back to Spirit Lake and have them put 5.3:1 gears in it. The thumbar alone is worth the extra $$. |

Location: Kentucky | I have two CB's and like them a lot. I like the higher gear ratio for most things, but as mentioned, the larger crankbaits will make you feel it if you fish them for a long time at a stretch. But to me the high speed and thumb bar got the vote over the lower ratio and button. If you can only have one reel, then I think it's a tougher decision since 5:1 is the most versatile ratio for everything. |
