Location: APPLETON, WI | Let's pretend for a moment you were leaving for Vilas County to do some musky fishing right after work tomorrow (06/27) and fishing all day Saturday and part of Sunday morning. If you were fishing this weekend like I might be, what would be a couple of baits you'd bring for both clear water lakes and stained?

Usually this is a good time for bucktails. I'm partial to Mepps Musky Marabous, Double Showgirls, Flashers, and Bulgin' Bucks. Tail rotating topwaters--Topraider. Twitchbaits-7.5" Grandma, Shallowraider. Jerks--Hellhound (8), Phantom Softtail (6"), Bobbie (8"). Some years there's already a deep weed edge established in which case Reg and Mag Bulldawgs and Depthraiders are good picks. I haven't been up in a while, what I've been hearing is weed growth continues to lag. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I'd make sure you have:
A spinnerbait
A double 10
A Mag Bulldawg, Curly Sue, or Hardhead
A Triple D
A tail rotating topwater
Once you have those, if you can figure out where the fish are you should have all the baits you need to catch fish. For colors - most anything should work but blacks or browns tend to be good for a wide range of water colors.
Good luck! Vilas is a cool area.
Oh, and in addition to the rain gear - bug spray if you will be out early or late.
