| I just bought some maribou and I can't see how I would tie the stuff for the spinners, doesn't look anything like tying bucktail to me. IF anyone has any pointers for a beginner I sure would appreciate them. How much does it take, special way of laying it out, do I need coils. All that sort of stuff. Thank you in advance. |

Location: Holly, MI | I've tied some marabou before, it can get messy. tiny feathers flying all over the place, stickin' to your fingers. The maribou has a great breathing flair that bucktails can't match. Make it easy..use fast dry superglue and put a drop on the plastic-like end of the feather and glue it to the hook shank. When you have as much as you want on the hook then wrap it with thread of your color choice and dab a little more glue and you are done. Or you can apply paint to the threads to change color. |

| I tie lots of baits with marabou. The way that I go about it is to first "wet" the individual feathers that you intend to use and draw the water out with your fingers so that they are just damp. This makes them more manageable. Then I tie about 4-10 feathers on one end of a 1.5 - 2 inch coil with carpet thread. I top the carpet thread with a product called "tough as nails" or "hard as nails" - something like that; women put it on their fingernails. These 4-10 feathers form a "whirl" - sort of like the branches on a Christmas tree. I then proceed to tie about five more whirls to fill up the remainder of the coil. Works great. |

| Where do you guys buy your Marabou? I checked out Stamina, but it seems as thought the stuff they sell is more suited for small jigs and flies.
Thanks.

Location: Chicago, Beverly | I have no idea what the difference is but the "bucktails" that someone ties for me, the guy uses "spineless" maribou. He claims that type has more action. Can't help about the tying though. |

Location: Holly, MI | Any fly shop will have it. Have you thought about Rabbit hair? I have seen it on some buzz baits and spinnerbaits. Looks to "breathe" and pulse kinda like maribou, might be even tougher and long lasting. |

| One tip from me, buy "strung marabou" instead of loose feathers. Easier to work with in my opinion.
