I am completely stuck in the middle here. For those who have the older toro's (non NACL) and switched to a tranx HG or maybe even still use both. My question is does the Tranx HG feel like a toro 5:4 (the old one) does when reeling in bullets and 10s, I'm not asking about speed, just the feel comparison.
I don't throw 12, or 13s, or bigger. This new will only be used for throwing 8-10s

On the other hand a brand new NACL 60 HG online is going for $229 out the door...

Ive actually thought to draw a name out of a hat and go with that..

I'd go with the NACL or look into the Lexa 400 series. Both are very nice reels.

What are important differences between the Daiwa series and the Revo Toro NACLs? I am looking to get a new reel and don't want to cheap out on one, but at the same time want to get the most bang for my buck. It seems like the NACLs are higher cost

Check out YouTube. I can do everything with my NACL but I'm only limited to casting with my Lexa.

IMO the feel between a tranx and toro (or curado, nacl) is very different. Just based on feel and not weight, speed or resistance, turning the longer handle on the tranx is sort of peaceful/lazy feel compared to the more focused/intense feel of a smaller handle reel. Both very nice reels but I reach for the tranx for 8s-10s most of the time.

Really, Really you just can not compare the Tranx to a Nacl Abu.....and they feel nothing alike.. I HAVE BOTH but the Revo Nacl is my favorite reel .The Tranx feels like it weighs twice as much as the Abu Garcia .........and it is twice the price If you try the Tranx I think you could take a long time to get used to it

You are comparing two very different reels. The Tranx is much bigger and heavier than most other reels. That being said, I got used to the size very quick and have no problem palming it and I do not have overly large hands. I had only used small reels (400d's, revos etc) in the past and it felt weird at first but you get used to it quick. Put it on a light rod and the combo isn't too bad. If you plan on pulling 10's a fair amount I'd get the Tranx PG if you got the cheddar for it. HG is more for rubber. Reeling in double 10's with a PG is comparable to reeling in double 6's with most reels. Revo's are awesome reels but there is no comparison with the Tranx when pulling 10's, especially when you need to get them moving.

I understand the desire to pick one or the other but they are so different that it is a hard question to answer. I have both and use my Toro as an all purpose reel especially with topwaters and smaller bucktails. My Tranx is more limited for bucktails and rubber. I find both are great options and easy to use depending on the application. If I was pushed to pick just one I would go with the Toro as it may be more versatile. I believe the pole you intend to use also makes a big difference.

The NaCL is the best reel for casting double 10s. It pulls them in way easier than the winch and it is not as bulky as the tranx. Making it much more comfortable in your hand.

I dont know what kind of rubber you guys throw but retrieving mag size Dussas Dawgs Super Ds and 10s are pretty effortless with a NACL 5.4 with a power handle. There is more pressure on the rod from weight/resistance then the reel. At least thats how it feels to me, its so easy its sometimes hard to tell if your blades are fowled or spinning and rubber just comes in with no resistance at all. The only thing a 5.4 doesnt do easily is burn 10s to the point its blowing out of the water. The 6.4 does it though at the cost of a little more effort on your part.
I dont throw pounders or 13s very often so I personally dont need a reel for doing that all day every day.

If you don't think speed is important with 10's buy the NaCL. If you feel speed could put a few more pigs in your net buy the Tranx. Simple as that.

Ive actually just bought both, the nacl 60hs, and the tranx hg, I already have a few older toro 60's so that gear ratio is already in place, so now I can figure out what works best for me on the rod the naclhs or the hg. Best part between the two combined I stayed under $600. Thank you

I've been using Abu Garcia products for 16 years and have never had a problem with one. I now have 3 setups. 2 nicl and one winch. I just can't see paying twice asmuch for the tranx. And I have large hands but the tranx is just so big. Easy decision IMO.

Tranx pg hands down the best big blade reel by far.

Any reel made can have an issue, which is why they carry a warranty. Customer service from Abu and Shimano is stellar, so you can't go wrong with either.

See which fits the bill for you.

Unfortunately there is no bill if sale when you buy from a fishing forum even if it's new.

Email them and get a bill of sale. It's as simple as an email.

Tranx vs NaCl - if you're throwing 8's and better more than 50% of the time and have the cash then get the Tranx PG. Anybody who says these two perform the same (over an 8 hour day) hasn't used one of them. Your right hand gets the easy job with a tranx pg....

I love the NaCl. I want one as a throw back/backup reel.

I tried out the Lexa 400 in 5.1:1 gear ratio the other day and it was a joy to bring in dbl 10s with. Course I've been using Abu C3s for years so maybe I'm not a good one to get advice from. And of course I don't know how durable the 400 will end up being. But initial impression is it is a winner.

Perhaps a 'reputable retailer' would have been saying it better.

I have had the toro 60, toro winch 60, lexa 300&400 and im still back to the Tranx HG, no other reel casts as well and has such smooth action. I would pick the Tranx every time now without question, all of the reels I have listed are great reels and I found no downside, but I prefer the look, feel and action of the Tranx over them all.

Just bought the Daiwa Lexa 400 (5.1:1) and the Big Nasty yesterday. The reel is absolutely amazing. It handled 10s like they weren't even there. I was worried about the speed of the 5.1:1 but at 27" per crank and the power handle it wasn't difficult at all to burn 10s to the point of out of the water. Also threw some super models and I will admit after 50 casts they do get a bit strenuous to pull in. The disengage level wind on casting didn't seem to shorten the casts as I was casting further than my winch on an 8'6" Big Dawg. I thought about getting a NaCl since Abus have treated me well but a higher gear ratio, one less inch per crank and $50 more, I went with the Lexa. If it holds up to the wear and tear like my Abus have then I gotta say this Lexa is sweet!

Just to throw another reel into the mix to help would possibly be the komodo 350. Its size is comparable to the nacl, and also has a ratio of 6.4:1 with 31" per crank and a price tag of $199.99. More than likely still would be tired at the end of the day of casting dcg. Good to hear about the lexa 400 5.1:1 ratio, was hoping also to hear some feedback on the lexa 6.3:1 with 33" also!

I have both and you want to get the 5:4 to throw anything larger than a double show girl. Tens pull in very nice with the 5:4 not so much with the 6:4.
