Location: Alsip, IL | Next year I'd like to take a trip somewhere I've never been as a late graduation gift. I have done almost all of my fishing in the UP and IL and would love a change of pace. my girlfriend of 3 years would like to tag along so this means im going to need somewhere decent to stay to make it as enjoyable as possible for her. LOTW has always been a dream of mine but I'm open to suggestions. Obviously I'd love a shot at a 50+ but I really just wana get away from city living and hopefully get my girlfriend into a fish or two and show her how fun a week on the water can be. Probably would hire a guide for a day as well. Any suggestions from you guys that have taken destination musky trips would be appreciated.

Location: NE PA | I have to echo the statements above. Not only is the fishing world class, but the scenery is something you dream about. I was there at the end of July and only saw a handful of boats during my entire week. That place has it all, and nice pike to boot. |

| There are quite a few great destinations in NW Ontario. No shortage of choices for resorts/lodges on LOTW. For your first trip up there, I'd suggest either NW Angle or Sabaskong areas. In the angle, I've stayed at the Angle Outpost resort on multiple occasions and wouldn't hesitate to return. Mylie's would be a great choice if your looking at Sabaskong. As an alternative to LOTW, IMO Eagle Lake/Andy Myers Lodge should be on every muskie angler's bucket list and would be an excellent choice as well. Good luck. Location: Alsip, IL | Yea money would definitely play a factor for me. I'd want to be around or under 2000 for both of us. Would I be best off bringing my boat? Or renting a boat up there. I'd be towing it from Chicago. |

Location: Minnesota | If you want to stay under 2000 i would go to vermilion. I have rented house's for a week 1200 bucks. Went to "homes for rent by owner" type in the lake and find a place to stay. |

Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | not overly difficult to stay under 2k for 2 people at LOTW, might have to skip certain lodging options that are more expensive but that's not hard to do. I would also highly suggest bringing your own boat, most of the rentals are pretty basic....As far as guides go, they really are not necessary. LOTW, even though it's a Canadian shield lake, is not that difficult to figure out. If something looks fishy it more then likely is. It's dark stained water and fish often will hold very shallow, there's no magic needed really. If your new to Canada reading through Muskies on the shield by Dick Pearson could teach you a lot.....
and for the guys saying Vermilion over LOTW?...hmmmm, that's an interesting opinion  |

Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | Getting her a fish or two may be pushing it on Big V. It's a gamble, she may get a 55 and be hooked for life. More likely scenario is that she gets none and never wants to go again. LOTW she's almost guaranteed a fish, but is sight seeing a bigger deal? Lot of factors come in to play....good luck

Location: WI | You might want to look at resorts around Nestor Falls, On. Right at the east end of Sabaskong Bay and only 1/2 hr away from Sioux Narrows if a little sight seeing is on your agenda. Plenty of good fishing within a 15 min boat ride for muskies, walleye, and smallmouth. |

| LOTW. I wouldn't chance it on a lake Like Vermilion or Leech. If you keep your bait in the water you're almost guaranteed to catch fish on LOTW. For sure she will at least see some and that's half the fun.
I don't know how big your boat is but it doesn't need to be very big if you go out of Nestor Falls.
I've been all over LOTW from Sabaskong, NW angle, Sioux Narrows, and Kenora with my 16 foot Crestliner. Be smart and keep an eye on the weather and you'll be fine.

| Lake of the Woods is like the Mecca of Musky fishing. I don't think you can go wrong there. I've fished Sabaskong Bay, and its good "all around" water.
My personal preference since I am after top end fish is to fish Eagle Lake, and eventually you'll want to check that place out.
I have also fished Kakagi/Crow, and I cannot second the recommendation given above. Yes, the East End of that lake is basically undeveloped and "wilderness". It certainly is beautiful water, but the Musky fishing just is not that good (compared to LOTW and Eagle). We casted our brains out for 8 years there with our biggest at 47". Most fish were 32"-42" casting, with the bigger fish coming trolling after dark (up to 47"), though my buddy did lose a absolute BEAST of a fish in 2003. I have no doubt there are supertankers in Kakagi/Crow, but they are rarely where we are trolling/casting.
So, all in all, I'd say LOTW-Sabasking is the best bet for what you are looking for, and in the future you owe it to yourself to check out Eagle Lake too (bigger fish...but maybe leave the girlfriend home and make it a true 'trophy hunt" as opposed to "some time on the water with the lady and we hope we get some fish.")

Location: Alsip, IL | I've done a ton of reading recently and for a trip with her I think lake of the woods is where we'll be looking into. although vermilion is definitely a must fish for me eventually, it seems like everything i read says my best chances of putting her into a fish would be LOTW. i brought her to my cottage in the UP but she just got to net the 8 i got that week, she rose one and didn't even see it, i wound up catching a glimpse of it while she was in lala land. She seems more excited about traveling to Canada and just relaxing, and the pictures we have seen of LOTW look amazing. Just trying to get her to see why I love to muskie fish so much, and if in showing her i get to go to Canada well then that's a win win for me. I appreciate everyone's input. |
