| So I'm standing on my dock in northern Wisconsin with my girlfriend who has never fished. I have a worm and bobber. I'm casting out, showing her how to do it. I'd cast, reel in fast, then cast again. I'm doing this and all of a sudden I see a toothy torpedo come flying in just as I pull the worm out of the water. She stops and then disappears in a flash. Girlfriend saw the green beast as plain as day...for that, I am happy, as she got to see the thing (musky) that I've talked about since meeting her last fall. Ha! I immediately grabbed a musky rod and casted out. Few twitches and BOOM. My heart races as I believe I have hooked into the musky....turns out it was just an overly ambitious bass. Has anyone ever had a musky chase a worm like that?
Also, there is no better feeling than launching your boat for the first time after a long winter: https://vimeo.com/96664332 |

Location: plant earth | Caught a few in the detroit river around this time on harnesses with worms on them. Little different than a bobber but never the less. Still a worm. Not anything bigger than 36" but still fun.

| I've had a musky blow up a bobber like a surface bait a couple times while fishing of the dock at my grandma's cottage... |

| Caught a low 30s tiger on a worm and bobber, casted out as far as possible from the dock. There is a long weed covered shelf and the worm was sitting right on the drop off. Also had a few bobbers attacked. |

Yep, me too, when I was a young kid camping at Day Lake. We were fishing from shore with bobbers and worms, and I had a muskie come in on the surface, waking hard and then exploding behind the bobber as I was reeling it in quickly. In hindsight, it was probably only a 34"er or so, but the memory is permanently etched in my brain....and probably one of the early events contributing to my eventual muskie obsession. |

Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | no, but a buddy of mine did a long time ago right next to me.....I had just bought my first musky rod/reel and my first bait, all excited to take the plunge and go full time musky fishing diverting from our regular routine of fishing eyes and perch together for many years. He cant stop good guyin about all the racket and splashing I'm making casting those big baits, whining about not getting a fish fry...what do I want to fish for those stupid things for.... blah blah blah...........few minutes later he lands a mid 30's on a worm/bobber out on Lake Ballard.....I'm still muttering to myself and he doesn't let me forget it |

Location: Hayward, Wisconsin | Musky 1969 is correct. The W. VA state record (officially 49 pounds) was caught on a worm. It weighed 50 pounds the day it was caught...on a certified scale, but no DNR rep was there, so next day they weighed it at 49 and that is the official weight.
Another "sad story" for real muskie men, but hey, there are more of them out there than us! |

| Memory serves me correct the current IL state record was caught on a glob of crawlers below the Shelbyville dam. |
