Last weekend pulled out the fly fishing stuff after years decided to MAKE time for spring trout fishing
Theres a metro trout stream here in twin cities just north of Stillwater fished it has a kid a portion of it now flows through a nice golf course. The golf course is very nice in that they allow fisherman to use the entire length of the golf course they only mow to within 50 ft of stream and allow brush and wild grass to grow they have let the DNR and trout unlimited do improvements.

For years my friends have bugged me "put down the fishing rod and try golf with us",,,never did and NEVER WILL.

Started downstream and for a couple of hours working the delicate number 4wt line water clear and cool total solitude 'felt like I was in a calendar picture" a few brown trout to be released

and then I hit the 'GOLF COURSE" section and the silence ended,,,for most of the next 2 1/2 hours has I waded through all I heard was #%*#...Jesus H ####,,,what kind of #### is that! and so on and so on. It reminded me of being in a valley with turkeys-you hear one sound off to the west then another to the east then a more excited one to the north and a really worked up one from the south only instead of gobbles it was shouts of expletives!!! In 2 1/2 hrs I heard more 'language' then if I would have spent ten Saturday nights in a south Minneapolis redneck bar!!!
Bout 6 times I was asked 'catchin anything"??? Bout 15 times I was asked "Hey did you see a ball come flying through here I cant find the #### thing"
Actually it was kind of reassuring to know that what I was doing was ALOT more peacefull then this obvious 'torture' that these guys with $300 worth of casual clothes on were doing,,and I didn't have to pay a hefty green fee to be in the same place.

Tomorrow is the border water musky opener here and it has been a COLD spring in Minnesota!!! Guessin I'll get skunked,,But I'll still be glad Im not golfin

So your saying while you were trout fishing Tiger Woods was actually playing next to you and you didn't get an autograph?

Few things are more relaxing to me than being knee or waste deep in moving water attempting to trick a fish. Golf is not for me either but to each his/her own.

You don't swear when you break off a fish, get a birds nest, cast in a tree, stab yourself with a hook, etc.? You don't spend hundreds on rods, reels, lures, boats, gas, etc.? I think golf and fishing are a lot alike. You can have a blast doing both or you can get peeed and want to snap your rod or club in half lol

I used to think golfers were a totally different breed but they are not much different than fishermen. They just chose to spend their money in a different way.
We drive to a northern state or Canada to fish the best water. Golfers drive to Florida or another state to play the best courses. They pay hundreds in greens fees. We pay hundreds for licenses and guide fees. We spend tens of thousands for boats and thousands for lures and tackle. They spend thousands on clubs, lessons and the latest gimmicks to improve their swing. We look for a good fish and they look for a good round.
Tried golf for a year and learned I would have to spend a lot of money on clubs and lessons. Decided to stick with fishing.
The people I don't understand are those that play slot machines. Repetitive arm motions all day. Sometimes you don't win, sometimes you win small pots and occasionally win big. You always think that the big one will hit if you just give it one more shot. Travel long distances to play.
I think I prefer fishing

when we were kids we would re-sell golf balls that golfers lost, and then buy hooks and sinkers.
golfers do have a use after-all.

The only difference between golf and fishing is someone can immediately quantify, and is constantly reminded of how terrible they are at golf.

"Imagine how crowded the waters would be if it weren't for golf courses and prisons"..

an old friend occasionally tosses that observation out there..

I hope this is sarcasm cause you just described musky fishing to a "tee".

I trout fish western Wis. and sometimes SE MN. a lot! Love it.

If I'd ever experience what you did I'd frequent more of the better streams in our area where you can oftentimes find some real relaxing solitude, even on weekends. I'm retired now so I don't HAVE to do weekends but have many years of fond memories prior.

Ain't so real reason for that sort of profanity anyplace. And I'm from the trades. I hate to hear it especially when fishing a quiet lake with my adult kids. Just not necessary. Altho, honestly, I'm not totally innocent of it, especially when those big heads and teeth appear out of nowhere...but I keep it in my boat and danged quiet.

99.9 % of the time anyways......*G*

Played once, ball went everywhere except where I intended it to, nothing like miniature golf. The attire required turned me off too. Thinking I might be too back woodsey for the sport. To each his own and I have not one regret !!!

My last round of golf was a complimentary round on Pebble Beach. I gave up/quit playing on the 14h hole. That was about 10 years ago, and I'll never go back.

To each teir own, I suppose, but my favorite signature on this site is: "I love golf, it keeps thousands of unworthy off the water." I believe it belongs to a Frank.
