Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I think the bait that deserves that title is a dead heat between a crank/twitch bail and a bucktail. Any weather, any conditions, no matter where the fish are, these baits can be fished successfully. Brands? Whatever you believe in, and want in the box! |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | My MOAB is got to be a 7 or 8 inch twitchbait, probably a Shallow Raider or a Jake. These baits are just so versatile. You can straight retrieve them (which I rarely do), twitch them, twitch them with agonizinly long pauses (great in cold fronts and spring), slack line twitches to get a little shoot and glide, rip them (an awesome warm water pattern), jerkbait them, the options are limitless. They are a bait I throw from the opener to iceup, nearly every day I'm on the water. |

Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I would have to say a spinnerbait. It's not something I use often enough. But it's a bait that can be used with success in nearly any condition. From spring until fall, from casting to trolling, from shallow to deep, from slop to open water. |

| Bucktales in the spring, but, most of the year I can't walk the dog enough. The surface action keeps me occupied, and, the fish seem to like the idea of a free lunch. |

Location: Warroad, Mn | Sponger: If I had to only use one bait for the rest of my life (for the next 25 years, I hope) I would pick a 10" solid firetiger Believer. In the shallow eye I can cast it in the weeds, as it's pretty weedless, and also "twitch" it over open water, as it "twitches" well. I can also use the deep eye to crank it down on deep underwater structure. I can also use it for trolling from anywhere in the prop wash to long lining in 25 feet of water. It's a very versatile lure, if you crank it slow it even becomes a surface lure!. Second choice would be a spinner bait. Third choice would be a bucktail. Forth choice would be a Suick (jerkbait). Fifth choice a surface bait. Sixth choice a Jig (probably because I rarely use them, and when I did all I caught was snags, too many rocks on the LOTWs). Doug Johnson |

Location: Kawartha Lakes, Ontario | I would have to agree with Doug Johnson's comments about the Believer. I could go out on any body of water with only one 10" straight Believer, and have confidence that I would catch fish regardless of the conditions or structure (shallow weedbeds, rock shoals, deep open water, etc.). It can be fished effectively fast, slow, shallow, deep, and everywhere inbetween. A big profile bait that catches big fish (and small ones too).
Keep your hooks sharp.
