Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Like most St Croix rods the lure weight rating is under what it handles well. It does a decent job with pounders but I really prefer the Big Dawg. |

Location: Land of the Musky | IMO your going to be happier with a heavier SC rod for pounders. I am sure this will work OK but it will probably load up a little too much. |

A buddy of mine has the G.Loomis 8' Mega mag do you think the Big dawg with the extra 6"s will make a difference?

| I've used some of the other more common big rubber rods and I personally love the big nasty for big rubber. I used it for monster medussas and think it works not just decently but very well. |

D I've only tried that Loomis once and it was an OK rod the Big Dawg length would be noticeable (surprisingly). Would it make a difference? The extra is on the tip and not the butt so it should make a difference fighting fish and also makes the rod capable of handling a wider variety of lures. Just because they don’t have any rods that go to 16 oz or higher, doesn’t mean they don’t have a pounder rod. I used a Big Dawg for 3 days straight last fall throwing pounders and I had no problems. |

The Big Dawg is basically made for pounders and does an amazing job throwing them. I throw pounders a lot and the Big Dawg is the best pounder rod I've used. It has a little softer tip than most 'pounder' rods, but I think that actually helps on working the bait, hooksets, and fighting fish. |

Location: St.John, Indiana | I throw allot of big rubber , this is just my opinion on the question at hand.
I own many St.Croix rods including the Big Dawg ,sling blade and Big Nasty in 2-6 and 3-8. In my opinion the Big Dawg' butt is to short for leveraging Hvy rubber all day. The rating may be 4-10 but the tip is to soft for my liking. I want a the rod to load just enough to help with casting but not put all the weight of the bait back on your arms/shoulder. The Big nasty 3-8 is a bucktail rod and does that job very well.
The point of having a designated big rubber rod (Pounder/monster Dussas) is not just for the ease of casting but for ripping and hook setting. I used the Big Dawg and felt it fell short in all three items. If you throw mag Dawgs or equivalent size baits ,I would recommend the Big Dawg/Big Nasty for the job . As that's what my wife throws...
Again just my opinion.

Location: Kodiak, AK | BD is awesome on pounders! Too heavy of a rod, like a "Monster" rod hurts my back ripping baits, but the BD casts and rips well for me. I prefer the Nasty for blades. |
