Guys -

My 2004 150 Optimax seems to be running cold at full throttle, about 90 degrees, and overheats at 1100 rpm's to 160 degrees. Was wondering what your running temps are at full throttle and at idle.

Thanks-
Gimo

Idle temp should be about 125-140 with 2.5 psi of water pressure. Full throttle should have 10-12 psi water pressure and temp will be lower. If you haven't replaced the impeller in the last 2 years I would start there.

Impeller, almost guaranteed.

Thanks for the replies. Word I got was that there "were weeds" around the thermostat.
Don't know how that could have happened in 1 short outing.

When was the impeller last changed? I never went more than two years on mine. If I tried to go 3, I'd get the same symptoms at some point in the 3rd year.

Rebuilt whole motor last year including compressor, water pump and impeller.
Only ran it for a few hours before winterizing it last year, then once this year when problem developed, and it was brought to mechanic.

Update - Impeller was fine, but poppet valve was replaced and temps at idle and full throttle are exactly what you stated.

The problem now is that an alarm sounds, the motor cuts off for an instant, then comes back on when starting out, kind of sputters. When slowing down, it does this and shuts off completely. The problem was masked by the overheating alarm I guess.
