| I know there is an avid following for the Shimano Tekota trolling reels, but recently I handled a Saltist line counter at Bass Pro. It picks up 46" per crank and was super smooth (more bearings than Tekota). Does anyone on the board here use the Saltist line counters? About to purchase 4 new reels and am on the fence between these two, both the 50 size.
Thoughts? Input? Dare I say it.....Opinions? |

Location: MN | I run 4 of the 40 size saltist line counters for leadcore trolling. Far and away better than the tekotas! The drags are super smooth and the 46" per turn of the handle is awesome! |

| Tim exactly the info I was looking for. They really do seem like a better reel. |

Location: MN | After the first weekend with the original 2 we bought we ordered 2 more. Checking lines is no longer a pain in my butt with the fast pick up. I would suggest going with the 40 and not the 50 though. The 40 will hold more than enough line i would think? Unless you're doing some serious long long line trolling. Either way I think you'll love these reels! |

Location: Kingston, Ontario | Never tried the saltist but own tekotas. Can't speak for performance difference but once nice thing about the Tekotas is they are dead simple to take apart and service yourself. Not sure on saltist. For what its worth if you do your own reels. |

Are you reeling in big lures with these too? I guess I could try my Saltist non-linecounter for a spell and see how it acts. I have never thought to use this high of gears (pick-up) for trolling but I guess it may have it's advantages. |

No I'm not. We use these for walleyes pulling leadcore line running anywhere from 3-8 colors of lead which is 90-240ft of line it's a pain in the butt reeling in that much line at only 22" per turn of the handle with the tekotas.
If I did more than just trolling from one spot to the next for muskies I'd have a couple more saltists in a heartbeat. |

Location: Sycamore, IL | I got a pair of Saltist 20 linecounters for this season and have about ten trips out with them. So far I am really impressed...quick line pickup, loud clicker, star click drag, comfortable handle, easily palmed and seem to be built like a tank. The only issue I have had is that the sight glass on the counter sometimes fogs up when its cold out. I've run everything from small shad type baits to big trolling baits and dipsy divers with out an issue. |
