| I understand that Mepps swears by squirral tails. I want to get into to making my own bucktails/baits every now and then, and I know quality bucktails are extremely expensive. Does anyone have any knowledge of using squirral tails for bucktails? I'm not that much of a hunter (on land) and was wondering if you could give me some insight as to what I should do after the squirral has been shot? How should it be salted? Should it soak in something? Can you give me any manufacturers who make quality dye?
Thanks,

| From my personal experience, you`ll find squirrel hair hard to tie with unless you are tying jigs or flies. Bucktails are less than $5 a piece and you can tie a heck of alot of lures with one. Besides that, bucktails come in many more colors than squirrel tails do, making tying multi-color patterns easier to do. Stick with the bucktails. | |
