I searched the forums and found nothing answering this question specifically...

i'm building a NMEA 2000 network of Lowrance components (two LMS-520c depth finders and one GPS antenna). I may be miss-understanding the NMEA 2000 manual, but it states that the NMEA 2000 network bus (all the T-connectors) only needs one source of power and should not be powered more than once. It also states that components connected to the network bus (the T-connectors) will then run off the power provided to that bus.

With that said, my 2nd depth finder will not power on when connected to the network via the Network port from the unit and a T-connector on the bus. The bus does have its own power node running directly to the battery. The console depth finder is connected via the ports on the unit labeled Network and Pwr/Data. My bow unit is only connected via the Network port. Does it, like the console unit, need its own line run up from the battery for the Pwr/Data port? Or should it essentially be powered through the Network port, since the bus is powered?

Any clarification on this would be appreciated, thanks!

You power each unit with its own blue conn power cord. Then you must also power the nmea network using either the nmea power leads on your unit cord or a nmea buss power cable into a T. You only power the nmea network once or you will wreck everything.

Perfect, thank you very much for the clarification! The Power cord up to the bow unit is the missing piece of the puzzle then.

Make sure to add a switch so you can shut off power to the NMEA network or your puck will drain your battery.
