What's it looking like up in Northern Minnesota, as far as the ice!
What's your guess when ice-out is going to be?

They are still ice fishing on Mille Lacs in Isle bay.  Might be 2 weeks yet there.

Anyone have a Red Lake (near Homestead access) or LOTW (Minnesota side) ice update?

Most of you guys might already be well aware of this site, but for those of you that haven't seen it:
http://ge.ssec.wisc.edu/modis-today/index.php?satellite=t1&product=...

I went fishing Friday afternoon on three SMALL lakes here in N MN and each had between 18 and 24" of ice, though the shorelines were pretty rotten, and the ice sheet was getting very soft. Smaller lakes should clear up in the next 1 - 2 weeks, while bigger ones are probably 2 - 3 weeks out still. Excepting a major cold snap or a bunch of snow, I can't see any ice lasting past mid-May.

I would bet Red is totally open by opener, Pointer. But follow the MODIS images and the MN DNR Ice Out map to make better predictions as we get closer to May.

Still lots of ice on Lake Vermilion. The Pike river is about to open the far west end of Pike bay but the main lake is stll very white and I don't expect it to be open for the Walleye opener.

I just got a report from Crescent Lake in Oneida County WI.
There is 15" of non-soft water on the lake yet!
With the WI DNR hearings pushing for trolling nearly everywhere, slots can be cut into the lake and bait trolled from their ATV's!
Global Warming marches on!

I'd say Leech should just make it for Walleye opener. Steamboat, Kabekona, Shingobee, Traders bays along with Walker narrows and the Sand and Pine pt areas are now mostly open. Some open water at Whipholt too and the ice looks like heck on the big lake.

Just a few small packs of floating ice on Walker bay. Leech is pretty much good to go.

I got up to Vermilion, last night. I'm looking out my cabin window, out on Big bay, and it's breaking up, and black!
Pike bay is wide open!
Looks like a couple of days, and it should be all open!
