Hey guys,

Looking for a little advice for those of you who do their own sonar installation. I have a humminbird 788ci that I want to put on the bow of my new fishawk. Can I just wire it straight to the console, or should I bring it back to the battery and put a fuse on it?

Also, does anyone know exactly what adapter I need to run it to the universal sonar on my terrova?

It should have a 3amp fuse between the unit and the battery. It doesn't matter if you got straight to the battery or through a terminal block.

Sorry, I don't know the adapter needed. I used the transducer that came with my 998. I wanted the side and down imaging up front. Here's a good video on the installation method if you are interested. I used silicone instead of epoxy.

Hiya,

if you check under the bow deck where a trolling motor would mount, you very well might already have the wiring there. Then, it is just a matter of splicing in at that point with the fuse at the splice point.

That would save you a bunch of time and long runs of wiring..

I have a designated fused wire run from the battery to a separate fuse block under the dash that I have all of my electronics run to with the correct amp fuse for each unit. IMHO, every new fishing boat should come rigged this way… or it’s the first thing that a fisherman should do considering the total cost is under $50, and only takes a couple of hours.

You are only talking about running two sets of wires to the helm that will be become permanent fixtures that can always be tapped into for any future electronics for the life of the boat.

The best part is that you can pitch those PIA in-line fuses and install the correct amp fuse for each unit in the fuse block, if there is ever a problem, you know where to find the fuse.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I can get working on this soon! Steve, do you mean wiring into say the trolling motor outlet wires? Or something else?
