What do the pros prefer when they are out to fish the weeds- Large weedbed (like cabbage) complexes or smaller beds, clumps that are nearer other structures? I have read Dick Pearson's discussion on this topic.
I fish Leech (2x this year in both mid July and 1st 2 weeks in August) which includes both types of habitat, in addition to a few lakes in Iowa.
Thanks in advance,
Don

Don,

The bodies of water that I fish have both as well - the Madison Chain and the Fox Chain. I have found that the large weed beds are the best during windy conditions. They just seem to come alive with activity when it is windy. During calmer conditions, the smaller beds and clumps near other pieces of structure seem to more consistent.

On the larger weed beds, pay attention to irregularities in the stretch. Points, turns, pockets, weed type changes (i.e. millfoil/coontail/cabbage/pondweed combinations). These areas would be key spots to hit on a milk run during calmer conditions instead of aimlessly wondering down the stretch on a calm day hoping to run across a fish.
