| I recently traded for a new to me pretty mint 1987 inline-6 Merc 115. It's a pretty good match for my old Ranger 680c Im restoring. Ive read and heard a few tricks to keeping these old girls starting and running well such as being sure to prime the gas enough (extra) before starting so it gets all the way up to the top carb, etc. Any of you guys have any other things I should keep in mind? And what oil would you run - Amsoil or Mercury? Thanks. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | my son runs a restored 1985 Tuffy Pike Rampage with an inline 90 Mariner, same motor. Let it warm up for at least a minute each time, a little longer in really cold water. Run non oxygenated gas. Run Quick Kleen or Sea Foam every tank.
Great motors, I love the way they sound. |

| Mine's oil injected w the remote tank in the boat. Would you recommend disabling that and straight mixing? |

| I believe those are a gear driven pump most mercs suzukies yamies and mariners are if it is dont worry about it just check the oil level before takeing it out on the water. And make sure that the oil tank is in an area where it cant get water in it thats the number one cause of why motors with a remote tank go bad. Just make sure your low oil level alarm works along with the over heat alarm. I had an oil injected suzukie 75hp and never had an issue with the oil injection just watch the oil level and carry an extra quart or 2 of oil in the boat just incase. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I don't think that any of the inline 6 motors had oil injection. They had the goofy premix setup in the boat, accublend or economix or something like that. I would definitely get rid of it and premix your gas.
