Besides Gopro what is out there for action type cameras, I am leaning toward the Gopro but want to know what else is out there, maybe get a Gopro and another cheaper one for just pole mounting or something like that.

I use a Contour Roam with a HatCams mount. Its much less intrusive than a Go Pro. I film 1080P/30 and there is basically little to no "fish eye" effect. The only downside is that the Camera is not very good that last half hour of day light (could be an issue with all these cameras, not sure). I shoot about 70G of footage per day, and then edit down the "action" scenes. The battery lasts about 3 hours if i remember. I carry a portable charger when i rent a boat in Canada (and charge between spots), and when we are in my buddy's boat with a cigarette lighter jack...I have the plug in for that. Never ran out of juice.

I have been looking really hard at the Sony action cam, the newest version AS100V. It looks pretty nice to me from the footage I have watched.

VIO POV makes a great camera, and has an accessory that allows you to power the camera from the boat 12 volt when on a mount. Loop recording, hi-def, wide angle, powered by 12 volt or double A batteroes (we use rechargeable batteries and get about 2.25 hours per set), takes great video. I think the base camera and mount kit is now $399.00.

I did a lot of research and went with a gopro, didn't get the latest model but the hero3 silver. Figured we don't need all the fancy stuff just for fishing. now I need to find out what accessories I need to get for it.

Use your trail camera for tripod mounting on your boat. Takes video or stills.

from what I read it depends on what type of gopro, that will work with the 3 but not the 3+. I would look at getting two 32gb sd cards instead of 1 64, that way if for some reason your card got corrupted you'd have a backup.. that's my plan at least.

The battery life in the GoPro 3+ series is a big improvement over the 3, so I would think about that before a purchase. The 3+ silver seems to have everything I was looking for. The only thing the black has that the silver doesn't is loop recording, but it is easy enough to delete files manually from the camera.
