Are you referring to the type of icon you get when you set a waypoint? You can edit old icons to change there symbols. Like a blue dot into a fish or weeds. I guess I need more info.

Thanks for seeking more info...I need to convert the older Lowrance LCX icons into Lowrance HDS waypoints so I can then use the Hummingbird program to convert to waypoints
I searched a few other forums and the best I have is a "maybe" if you save the icons on a MMC card in load into a HDS unit, the icons will transfer into waypoints. Then I can save the HDS file will all waypoints.
My huge concern is 90% of my data are icons...not to helpful if only waypoints transfer.

The icons will convert to waypoints if loaded to HDS or Elete series but they will not be titled. my biggest complaint with HDS is loosing the icon feature.

Thanks again.
I went to local Lowrance shop and tried uploading a few LCX files onto a HDS unit. The icons were listed as a waypoint named icon. I thought this was a good sign. I saved the HDS file and tried to upload to the Humminbird PC program, but received an error message that file was unreadable. Am I missing a step or need to save under a certain HDS format?
Ughhhhh...back to the start.

If you still have your LCX unit you could try changing your most important icons to waypoints and then trying to import the LCX file to hummingbird. Just try a few to see what happens if you live in the north you have lots of time.

There's always loading them one by one manually using lat. and long. Long process but doable.

When I went from Lowrance to bird I converted the waypoints and icons using a free program off the internet called GPS Babel. Before I used that program I couldn't load my data using the free lowrance software or the bird software.

Try exporting as gpx out of the hds then open directly in hbird PC.

I hear you Joe; transferring icons/waypoints can be frustrating...

I had issues transfering waypoints/icons from LCX to HDS... until finding out I had to delete all of the LCX routes/trails before saving them to the SD card.
