Greetings;

We need to direct some calls an emails to these key legislators regarding the 55 inch size limit asap.

Copy/ Paste, call and email these elected officials about supporting the state wide Muskie size limit to 55 inches, be respectful and considerate; they are not opposed to this necessarily, but they need to hear from you. Send them photos, share stories and tell them how important protecting Muskies is to you. Your input is the most important thing in this process; you play a huge role in the decisions that will be made in the very near future, we need to call and email ASAP. This is a new committee with new people that want to hear from you. All of us can make a difference with a few minutes of your time. A quick message over the phone; and copy and paste into your email is very valuable.

Tell them who you are, where you are from, your contact info and why protecting these fish is important. We appreciate your time and consideration.

Thank You

John Underhill

We were just informed by one of them that Muskies dont get over 50 inches so it would make it impossible to keep a fish. This is for real guys and gals. These are the key players we need to talk to, they see myself and a few others everyday saying the same thing, promoting the fish, the memories and the businesses that come from it but they need you to confirm it.

What are the bills this is included in? When I called my district rep they asked what bill it was a part of.

I sent them all and got three immediate replies from the representatives. All three supported it. One said great picture and smile (my son) and one said he heard support was pretty good but if there was a problem it was in the senate. That was Nornes.

Its SF 2227 and will have a hearing on Monday in Tomassoni's committee. This is the largest hurdle to overcome everyone if you can do nothing else call as many of these legislators as you can, its 5 of them so total time would be about 4-6 minutes. Just a fast message on their machine over the weekend or with the assistant if they answer.

Curious.....I'm very much anti government. Don't people get tired of the government telling us what we can and can't do? Everybody in previous threads says "I won't keep a musky". Doesn't sound like an issue. I'm fine with a 55" or 60" limit, but it peees me off when the gov't tells me what it is. For example, night fishing Mille lacs....I typically don't fish past dark, by choice, but I like to have the option available. What do guys think about proposing a barbless hooks only regulation for musky fishing? It would help for a speedy release and limit handling mortality. Guaranteed there are more Muskies floating belly up from guys unhooking and taking photo shoots than there are people laying the blade to them. Not too many off us want the gov't forcing barbless hooks on us. We are better off keeping them out of it. Just my 2 cents

I guess I will be a no vote!
I don't believe in a one size fits all approach!
Special size for V, Mille ,Leech and others that have world record potential no problem make it 60 or more!
Whats next file all the barbs off my hooks ( that should take about 5 years off my life!
We just went from 40 -48
How about 50 and special lake regs.
Keep educating not mandating!
This will probably only be up for five minutes anyway as I strongly disagree!

M2M- Lets keep them out of it even when the premise of the bill is for the best interest of the fishery (in my opinion), what are you thinking? Mortality rates for barbed hooks and night fishing may not even be comparable to the mortality rate of the currently legal fish that go home with the average Joe. Not sayin the 55" is the cure all but when the option is out there to be able to keep a 48" or larger fish, some are gonna go home....

I would rather my tax $'s which have already been spent on musky stocking have a longer lasting impact on the fishery by keeping at least some of the legacy fish in the system.

Call it what it is 100 0/0 State wide catch and release!
Maybe we shouldn't be taking anything under 55 out of the water for a picture!

I called in my support. I do not support the State Senate and House lowering the size to say 50". 55 or nothing. I do think that the DNR should have the call on this but certain other entities have done a End Around of the DNR to go to the State Senate and House.
These fish have the capability in many state waters to reach this size. The value of one large fish vs the number of fingerlings or yearlings to replace them is huge.
If we protect our fish from going home with out of state anglers and in state anglers- don't kid yourself there have been many fish (fish of a lifetime for many) that have been harvested. The cost of replacing these large fish is to large to keep up with stocking our existing waters.
As soon as MN has no big fish the tourism dollars will leave the state. This is a small step.

Please support this bill

What's wrong with disagreeing with a new size limit? Those who agree will help try to get this done. Those who do not...probably will not.

I have no problem with the proposed size limit. I just hate the gov't, don't even want to call them b/c then they know who I am. However I do think there is a lot of assumptions being made, that people are keeping fish like mad. I'm on the water more than most, and I've never seen anyone keep a fish, maybe it is a big issue. I could be putting the blinders on. I saw a walleye guy on Cass put one in his live well , so he could show his family. They brought it back out and released it. Hypothetical, if I had a big "legal" go belly up. I still wouldn't mount it, I think most people know forms look better and last longer than the actual skin.

It sounds like the support is not there for 55. I talked to someone very close to the game and fish bill this afternoon and they thought they should lower it to 50 inches. I suggested that they drop any legislative move and let the MN DNR set the limits.

Please call your elected officials and voice your concerns.

There is definitely support for it from all but a few that are close to the Senate G&F bill. I've been personally talking to them for weeks. Please keep the calls and e-mails going in support. The only organized opposition to this is from the Darkhouse assn leadership(why I have no idea), I talked to several spearers at the expo that want it raised. The DNR plan is designed so they receive no calls from the few people opposed to this. It has nothing to do with whats best for the fish we love.

Keep calling and E-mailing please.

Today is it folks, if we want this to move to the next level we need to call today, the Muskie haters are just as or possibly more passionate about suppressing the fish that we can be to preserve it. They are calling, we need 10X more. Make the calls today before 11:00 am. Thank You John

Hate govt all you want, but if you don't contribute to the conversation then you'll never have a say. If you don't want a law or size limit then call your senators. There's a very convenient list at the top of the thread for you. Just don't complain about legislation if you're going to do nothing about it.

I contacted my representatives and told them I fully support an increase to 55 inches. If you oppose it, let them know. Or don't....
