Thinking about a possible day trip next Saturday the 12th to Pierce lake. What's the ice situation like? Local reservoir is starting to open here so looking for some open water?

Don't know the ice situtation but here's something I found on the IL DNR site:

PIERCE LAKE BOAT RAMP WILL BE CLOSED FOR REPLACEMENT The main boat ramp for Pierce Lake, adjacent to The Lone Rock concession, is scheduled to be closed for replacement early spring 2014. Replacement could take up to 2 months and planned to be complete by May 1st. During this period, boaters are instructed to access Pierce Lake from the boat ramp located in the campground.

Don't know what the "campground" landing is like so anyone with info please chime in.

The fox chain is opening very rapidly. Not sure how close that is to pierce lake.

Fox chain is east of Pierce. Pierce is just outside of Rockford.

I fished the fox chain in a tournament a couple of years ago and if memory serves me right, between the "use" fee and launch fee it cost ~$30 just to put the boat in the water for a day.

Yeah they get you going both ways. Need a chain sticker to operate on the chain and then the launch fee.

I live on crystal lake and pierce is about the same size, we still have ice but it will not be there long.
the ice starts about 10-12 feet from shore. I figure by Monday I will be on the water.
I have fished pierce a number of times and the launch by the campground is nice, just a lot smaller than the main launch.
good luck

Anybody have an address for this campground? I tried a quick search and only found the main landing?

I believe it's the same address as the main boat launch at the state park - just over in the campground area.

The campground is in the park...just follow the signs once you are there. Best of luck...

launch in campground is designed for smaller boats believe, as for parking rigs i believe parking is limited in the campground.

Was at Pierce today and the main launch is open. Water temps ranged from 43 main lake to 52 back of bays. Nice day out there...finally!
