looking for a prop bait "how to".

specifically how to drill a straight hole through the center of the lure body. A Lathe seems obvious but I do not currently own one so looking for an alternate method.

Thx!!!

I mark the center on each end and then drill in from each end with a 2 3/4" bit on the drill press. Then I use a longer 6" bit in a dremel tool to connect those pilot holes. On even longer baits you may need to bump up to a 12" bit.

You can also make a simple centering jig of sorts by driving a 16 penny nail through a piece of scrap wood just far enough that the point sticks through about a 1/16" or so. Then clamp that board to the drill press table so the nail point is centered under the bit.

Should have said that was a 1/8" diameter bit, 2 3/4" long. The others are 1/8"x6" and 1/8" by 12". Dick Moore sells brass and aluminum rivets to use as bushings in the holes.

if you are making a new lure from scratch just mark and drill while it is square it is much more accurate.

Kodiak x2. Bore hole first thing then lay lure pattern out around the hole. Musky Glenn

Kodiak,
Do you use a mandrel to hold the wood blank on the lathe after drilling the center hole?
