Location: Athens, Ohio | Looking for a few trolling rods. Sounds like glass is preferred over graphite?

| Low End: Shimano TDR Heavy 8' 2-Piece
High End: Thorne Custom E-Glass (St. Croix Blank) with 6" off the tip. Will handle ANYTHING.
That is what is in my boat.

Location: Minnesota | I don't go cheap on any thing. I have two 8 footers and two 9 footers all four rods are Thorne bros custom rods. Don't needs to spend a lot on trolling rods. But if you don't skimp on your casting rods why skimp on trolling rods. If it is casting or trolling buy the best you can afford. |

Location: Pewaukee Lake | I would recommend Custom X trolling rods. Bulletproof product from a manufacturer that stands behind his product. Will run ya about $165 each. If ya want a quality rod that's easy on the pocket go with the Shimano TDR's 8' heavy.....$30 a rod!! |

What he said... If you dont have the coin a Salt Water Ugly Stick or a TDR will do the trick but if you can dump the $200-$250 for a best in class Trolling rod why not do it. They will last a lifetime if taken care of. |

Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | Can't remember where, but I recently saw a video on trolling Lake St. Clair. The captain/guide said that the majority of the charter boats there are equipped with UglyStiks. The dipsey diver rod is about the best for muskies.

| I agree with Jano. Why spend big money on rods when they will be sitting in a rod holder? Save your money here for your casting rods. Kdawg |

| From my experience the best value for trolling rods is to go with Ugly Stiks. I have purchased high end for casting because of performance but don't see this carried over to trolling. I have used Ugly Stiks for trolling for years and they have worked great. |

| i've been completely satisfied with the Black River rods "Live n Troll" model. plenty of action in the tip to read lure action, forgiving enough at boatside when fighting a fish, and good backbone deeper in the rod. they're a glass/graphite mix, and as a bonus they work great as a sucker rod, something some of the other softer rods mentioned don't have the backbone to do as well. (and i've used most of them.) the Black River rods are designed my friend Jason St Mary (saint1), a great guy that many people on this site know.
this video's got some good shots of the rods in action last fall for me and Jason on Lake of the Woods pulling Jakes, Headlocks, and fighting a few fish.

if something performs better, i'll pay more for it every time. if something performs the same at a lower cost, i'll save my money.
Rollie & Helen's has them for $109.
