That struck me^ especially reading they found the more hearty fish dead already.
I hope its not as bad as they anticipate..... very frustrating since danm near nothing can be done.

Location: minocqua, wi. | still 30+ inches of ice here, sub-zero the last couple nights and really cold tonight with temps. that could hit a range of -8 to -18 in the overall area … still making ice temps.
south of HWY 29 in Wisconsin you wouldn't know what is happening an hour north. it's basically january here still.
good news is we're going to see mid-high 20's over the weekend. amazing the difference an hour drive can be. |

| Winterkills happen. This projects to be heavier than the past few years. When they've been as harsh as this one could be the world didn't explode, cats didn't marry dogs, the Vikings didn't win the Super Bowl, and life went on. With the amount of snow that we had this winter and last along with the way last spring was and this spring is shaping up to be it will be an overall bonus. Replenish the aquifers, raise those lake levels up, and stave off drought like conditions that we had two years ago when everyone thought it was wonderful to have 70's in the middle of March.
A shallow lake near home is "known" for "freezing out." It never does. Oxygen levels might be lowered throughout the course of a winter and some winter kill will occur which will send people into mass hysteria that every living organism in that little pond has died. It keeps them away so it receives little to no fishing pressure and the best part of it is that the summer and winter immediately following years when it "freezes out" tend to be some of the most incredible fishing you'll ever have. Looking forward to it. |

Location: MN | It is promising for the ducks. Should make some productive wetlands in the near future.
I would think most lakes stocked with muskies are not real susceptable to winter kills? I gotta think the DNR would take that in to consideration. |

| The DNR is checking these lakes pretty frequently. Lake Rebecca has an aerator. I'm curious about Eagle Lake. Hopefully that lake ends up ok
