ive used a combo for a hr with this set up, was wondering if anyone had some feedback on the leader system.  durability ect...   i fish alot of snaggy areas, seems like kind of a pain if you damage the leader and have to re tie.... plus the splice kit is spendy, on top of the price of the hollow braid.  feeed back would be great.

 thanks,

eric

Can't comment on durability, as I haven't used them yet. I have been playing around with making them this winter.

Check out ToroTamer by charkbait. They sell smaller spools of different diameter hollow braids, and they sell the needles individually. Give them a call and let them know what your trying to do, they'll talk you through it.

First watch the above link. This is the system I use.

A few tips:

1.) When you wrap the flouro to hollow ace connection spend a LOT of time wrapping it, like 10-15 minutes. If you skimp here, the thing will separate at some point. When you are done with the excessive wrapping, saturate the whole thing in super glue. (my little modification to the process.) It adds some extra hold.

2.) For the loop to loop connection. I used s Surgeon's Loop on my mainline. When you run the hollow core into itself to create the loop at that end of the leader make sure you run at least 12-15" of lead into the hollow core. Also use a liberal amount of superglue on each weave.

3.) When you connect the loop to lopp make sure you pass it through at least 4 times for added strength. Also, set up the knot such that it doesn't end up on your spool when you are reeled up. Thumbing the knot HURTS!

4.) Make sure you bridle these beads as shown. Super glue again is your friend.

For Durability, I'm into my 3rd season with my original two leaders, which no issue. I do plan to redip the swivel connections as some of hte epoxy has worn off over the past 2 season. Outside of that, the leaders are in tip top shape. This system is definitely expensive upfront, but cheaper over the long haul if you take the time to do the leaders right.
