Location: WI | Maybe some of you wonder why a repaint price can vary so much. Some baits really don't need much prep work other than a good sanding to ensure good paint adhesion Some of the baits that I encounter repainting can't be fixed. But most can. I would like to share A few baits I have done recently and my process to go from trashed to good as new. I'm sure others have different methods but I have found this to be the most durable and effective.
Here are 3 baits in varying condition that I received. The manta had about half of its epoxy clear gone and a lot of hook rash and teeth gouges. The hook rash had dug in to the resin body about an 1/8".
The second is a wood drop belly glider than had about 80% of its heavy epoxy clear gone and hook rash dug into the wood.
Third is a jointed depth raider that had a lot of its belly paint rubbed off. It also had strange bulging that I would assume had happened sitting in the hot sun.

Location: WI | My first step is to remove any loose clear coat and paint I can. Then a good sanding to prep for sealer.
I use epoxy clear applied to the baits to fill imperfections and seal the bait. In the case of the manta I applied a little more on the hook rash. After 2 days of drying I sand the epoxy and end up with an almost new surface.

Location: WI | The baits are now based with white and then painted and epoxied to spec of the client. When you think about all the time involved you understand why a restoration costs what it does. But if it's your favorite bait it's worth saving.

| Good subject Andy, I'm repainting two Hughes Rivers, except I stripped all the clear coat and filled in the imperfections, resealed, primed and clear coat. now I'm ready for paint. I will have to charge extra for the strip down. Most baits don't need that much work.
