Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I am probably going to be running this deal this season, so are there any suggestions going into this? Figure that we do the mad seeding dash about the last week in April....then start this in June, with 5 rounds, championship to be done in October.
Here's some ideas (JUST IDEAS!!!)
-seed from the top 2 to 4 finishers from last year? they did kind of earn it (that would make MNEsox #1, TrophyMuskie #2)
-alternate partners/alternate teams only used in the first 2 rounds.
-IF we have EXTRA alternate teams (ie. can't get in before 32 teams are seeded), where they can (thinking WI and non-closed season waters) they duke it out for the right to be alternates by competing in May.
-Prizes? this sort of increases the importance of the HONOR SYSTEM
-sticking with the household items in pictures, to be displayed within 3 days of the stated duke it out day, item to be given the day before.
-no picture on site, no counting the picture.....no household item in the picture, no counting the picture.
Any other ideas? Like I said, I want ideas, but I can't promise we will use all of them! Luke_Chinewalker/JM03/MuddButt/Joey/Lunch_Box....I know you have ideas, you know I value your opinions, just don't hurt my feelings....you know how fragile I get.
*tell your friends, neighbors, enemies, co-workers, in-laws and ex's about this, lets get it ROCKING!!!
**Musky for Lunch is going to win by the way.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | OK, the question of GUIDES came up last year....think of how you want to deal with this issue.
My thought: guides are in...if they (in the first 2 rounds) can't fish with their allotted partner, then they can use a client, A client, not 2 or more (honor system). If you are fishing with a guide (ie. you are PAYING him more than coffee/gas) for the day, if you are with your partner, or in the first 2 rounds with an alternate, cool. But after the first 2 rounds, the guide cannot become your alternate, its the rules anyways. THIS IS FOR FUN AND GOOD NATURED COMPETITION(with growling and snarling), IF WE HAVE PRIZES, THEY WILL PROBABLY NOT BE WORTH SPENDING ALOT OF MONEY ON TO WIN.....GOD HELP THE PERSON WHO HAS AN EGO SO BIG THEY HAVE TO WIN THIS CONTEST SO BAD THEY HAVE TO SPEND $200-$300 TO DO SO.
A few things I want to stress now, and throughout the contest:
a. this is for fun, no feelings need to get hurt, no friendships ruined over it.
b. whenever possible, blame me...I am the root of all evil, and therefore shall take all responsibility for all the problems of the world, and the problems with this contest. If you have an issue, or a difficulty in scheduling, consult me first. I will mull the problem over/consult my crack think tank of minds, and we shall resolve problems.
c. interpret the "spirit" of the rules, don't push the wording of the rules to your advantage...see rule a. for further reason why this is.
d. the "musky gods" are judging you at all times.....consult rules a. and letter c.
e. before entering, please consider the amount of time that you will have to fish....this does take time, and yes we bent the rules to a large degree last year to get everyone to fish....but I would like to try to avoid more conflict this year, while still filling at least 32 teams.
Bring on the suggestions...if they are of a "sensitive nature", please email me.

| Hey Slamr - I have an idea for you to consider. (Actually it's a whine I've carried with me since last year's event.) Not sure if there is a way or a good reason to do somthing about it. Here goes...
I was beat out first day because, even though I boated two fish, the rascal I was competing with (Ralph Florio) boated two bigger fish. It kind of burned me to see fishless team advance only because they were seeded lower than the fishless team they fished against. In fact, didn't Steve Cady make it to August or September without boating a single fish?! Or was that Shep?
Anyway, I was hoping that we could consider changing the rules so fishless teams are "trumped out" by teams that boated fish but still lost the match.
Now, I can live with however this turns out, don't try to make big changes just for me. But I thought my idea is worth considering. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | I think last years event went pretty well. Now there is a few things that can be improved on that's for sure. I like the idea of " fastest loser advance vs seeds" but this can be a problem if we have 3 fishless winning teams and 2 losing teams with fish. Then your getting down to a draw and not good. One thing that I saw that will need improving is the schedualing, I would suggest a limit as to when the dates should be set in stone and not changed, like lets say the 7th of the month giving the teams 7+ days to get things together. Once dates are set in stone they cannot be changed by nether team. I would also suggest that we set a weekend vs just 1 day, still make it a one day event but one team may fish Saturday and the other Sunday but the dates would be set on the 7th and maybe a week in advance as to it be the Sat or Sun. Now for the Championship in October now this should be a 2 day all out bashing event as everyone has more time to fit this in. Have to stick with the "item" in the pictures thats a classic but lets limit it to items on the smaller size. Having to carry a lawnchair on a trip was a bit** and the rake in my boat got me a lot of questions. |

Location: Hartford, WI | I have been in plenty of baseball, waterfight and other tourneys. and in most of them you draw a number for the starting position, like we did last year, first 32 teams sign up and your seeded on how the post was, and I think this was fair, even though I had the same problem that ranger did, and its part of the draw. I think its fair, and you need to keep it very simple other wise we will spend more time trying to figure it out and no time to actually fish. The other option, is to have a qualifing round. Everyone would have to have 1 day fishing, before June 29 and have the date announced to the organizer so they can get them a house hould item. Then the fish from that day would end up altimatly being there seed. The highest they could seed would be number 5. Because the final 4 from last year automatically get the first 4 seeds. The ideas for this are endless but all you need to do slamr is set rules, if they dont like them, then dont participate or just deal with them. If you make this too complicated it might get ugly.

Location: Chicago, IL | I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but I do beleive there should be a day chosen by the contestants to place. This way it will keep a fair ranking of teams.
In other words, each team competing tells Slamr the day they are going out...depending on how they do that day (inches of fish) determines where they stand before the 1st round (except the top 2 from last season). This way we have a decent feel for teams being matched up instead of random match-ups.
Might also be a good idea to keep rankings by inches of fish like in a tourney this way there are no teams passing rounds on fishless days and teams being DQ'd after having a good day.
After reading my post, I guess just kind of base it on the NHL playoffs..LOL

Location: Hartford, WI | I still think, you need to catch a fish in the first round to advance. This luck of the draw will not cut it. I just went back to the archives and either half of the message arnt there or the post are cut short. I think after the first round, should be a qualify round, then seed the teams from there.
Why because last year there were several teams that made it a couple of rounds blanking and other teams that did great went home, granted this is fair by going by seedings, but not very good to try and run a tournemt. Sorry, that would be like saying, well my team did better than your because we have been around longer, just dont cut it. The best teams overall should advacne. or what about screw the team vs team and ever team in gets one day a month, and the 2 teams with the highest points square off at the end?

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I am mulling the seeding issue. Querstion: do we have complete and total results ON SITE to check against?
Ranger - we have to go 1-to-1 match ups, and the higher seed is going to take it in the case of a tie, or a double blank....otherwise its not matchfishing.

| The only thing I would like to see is that you get a time frame to fish in. Doesn't necessarily have to be the same day. Gets into scheduling problems at time.
E.G. Say that both teams have 2 weeks to fish. Team one might fish the 2nd day of the two week period and Team 2 would fish the 7th day. You would have to announce the day you plan to fish ahead of time though (would need to to get household item).
Just trying to figure a way to make it easier to get both teams fishing. Sometimes logistically you can't get both teams on the water on the same day.

| Hey Slamr - I agree that it can get very complicated trying to ensure some sort of equity. And you sure can't make changes based on ALL the suggestions you might receive.
If we end up again with fishless teams advancing, while successful teams get beat fair and square, well, so be it. Maybe it adds some spice and an element of dumb luck to the whole deal. I for one can use all the dumb luck I can stumble across.
In the end, I'll be happy no matter how you set the rules.

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I just noticed Jim K's post and agree with him. Why can't we do two matches one per month and take the top 10 teams or whatever works out to advance through the qualifiers into the seeded finals. This way you have to earn your seed. This will eliminate luck of the draw.
Slamr what do you think about this? We need to get this rolling so we can plan it around other things.
