I was looking at maybe adding a spinning setup to the gear, after watching the Keys Outdoors video seeing Hammernick using that spinning setup to toss gliders caught my eye. Anyone use spinning gear or have recommendations on a reel and rod to look into. Thanks

i talked a little to thorn bros about this, i know they can make what ever you decide, i was talking a 8.5 H with a shorter but, and a larger heavier drag pressure, i see this being good for jerk baits and after a few hard days when my hand hurts, or new anglers/young

anxious to here what others have done

I just made two spinning rods for customers with top components (one split grip and the other full cork). You name the length and action!

I had Franks (Customs Rods) make me a spinning combo three years ago. We used a St Croix LT 7'11 Flippin g stick blank, added an inch to the back and put a split grip on it. It kicks but. I went all in and put Titatnium guides on it and fancy wraps but its not like you need all that. I use either a 3000 or 4000 Sustain on it.

I have a couple customs from Dadson rods. One is built on a 7'10" Avid flipping blank and the other is a packbay 7'6" flipping blank. I use them for creature/jigs mostly, but they also work great with lighter baits like you mentioned as I use them for pike as well. BR

I use #50 braid, I have used tuff line xp, suffix performance, and spiderwire, they all worked fine for me. BR

They sound like spendy setups

They don't have to be, I just spend quite a bit of time fishing jigs/creatures so I spent some money. Check out the specs on the 7'10" avid flipping blank and just find some thing similar but less money. Should work fine.

I checked, something that will handle 1/2-2 oz should be great.

take a standard musky rod to the bench grinder and take off the trigger, add spinning reel and go fishing.

Look at the St Croix tidemaster series. They make a couple heavy spinning rods. I'll be getting one of them in the next few weeks for the exact same thing. Pairing it with a Stradic Ci4 4000. I'll also pair it with my 7'6" Tidemaster travel rod for those saltwater trips.

The do nto have to be. I wanted an 8 foot rod I could use for Tarpon fishing so I created mine from scratch. St Croix Mojo Inshore Rods, The Loomis In SHore Rods or the St Croix Tide Master rods are all solid options for the price of casting rod more so then the cheap stuff but not outrageouse... Also look at Salmon back bouncing Rods...

Good info on the rods what do you look for in the reel? I was looking at the Cabelas Salt Striker looks like a decent price larger reel good drag, any ideas?

Did a lot of research on this and the 4000 size seems to be the spot. Perfect for pike/muskie with some flexibility for saltwater. After a ton of research it came down for a Stradic Ci4, Sustain, or Quantum Smoke Inshore.

If you're not going to do salt at all then the shimano symetre's and saharas seem to do a great job for me.

my main concern is price since it will be used just a little mostly early season for small baits and for my wife since she refuses to use a baitcaster. I have always been a bit shy of cabelas branded products

I use a Shimano Sahara 4000 with 50# braid on a Gander rod. Probably less than $150 for the combo.

Overstock bait has musky innovations spinning rods.

My spinning setup is an older Abu cardinal 106 with an UglyStik Big Water rod. Extremely affordable and durable setup 50lb Spiderwire Stealth for line. Have been using it for years and has never let me down.

A setup I use for northerns and spring musky with jigs, small phantoms and 7 " suicks is a 7' H SC Premier with Shimano Sahara 400. I use 30 lb braid and a seven strand leader with no swivels. It is a nice change of pace and a lot fun when you catch one.

Try a Penn Conflict or a Penn Spinfisher V in the 4000 or 5000 size for the conflict and 4500 for the spinfisher V. You won't go wrong with ether reel. Saltwater tough.

The St. Croix 7' H is a great rod. Pair it with an Abu Gracia 30 (or 40 if you like bigger) size reel for creatures, small gliders, and 5 to 6" cranks.

Abu's rod for the chore is a 7'6" heavy action Vendetta. Watch Tackle Industries new bass series too, James has been busy.
