| I just bought my first boat. It's in winter storage right now so I can't really study any of this in person yet. It's a used boat, Smokercraft Resorter and has a base of the line X50DS already installed on it. I was wondering are boats usually prerigged for sonar units? My Lowrance 5HDI has about a 3-4 ft power cable which obviously won't be long enough to reach the batteries at the bow. Does that mean that power cables are already pre-rigged under the console to accept the tie-ons red/black 12v cables without needing to attach all the way to the rear?
I will still need to run a rope through from the console to the transducer area if I'm not mistaken, any tips on how to get this done to make the job easier?
Is anyone knowledgeable about this next question, is the X50DS transducer bracket the same as the 5HDI? Meaning, I can recycle the bracket that's already on there and not have to drill any new holes???

| You should be able to reuse the old power cable and just splice into it.
You will need to pull the transducer cable through, I'm assuming you are going to mount it on the transom near the big motor. Every boat is different and there will likely be an electrical switch board or maybe the gas line shut off panel or something you can temporarily remove to help with access.
If you plan to trash the old depth finder, I suggest cutting the old transducer off and then use the old cable as a pulling line to install the new transducer cable. Pull easy. if it gets stuck pull back in the opposite direction a bit and just keep working it. Eventually you will get it fished through. If you don't plan to trash the old transducer then use the transducer cable to pull through a pulling line, then proceed as before, just one extra step.
I'd bet you will need to use the new bracket, I bet the old one doesn't fit.
