Location: Eastern Ontario | Dr. Bruce Tufts said that a scent would have to be water soluble to be picked up by a muskies olfactory system and most commercial scents are oil based so don't waste your coin
I know a guide that swears by them
If you want to try it cheap generic cod liver oil should work as well as anything, or not
If you put it on and catch a fish was it because of the scent or one of 25 other factors
in the right time and place they will strike a socket wrench

Location: colorado | Most will tell you that sent will not work for muskies. Do not let that stop you! Most would have told you double tens would not work as well. Thinking outside of the box has made some huge advancements. |

| I did some work with scents back in the early 80's and tracked different species and success rates , Lake Trout and salmon with out a doubt bite at a higher ratio , Pike in the spring would totally destroy a bait laden with scent , Bass it seemed not to have a significant difference unless they were in a neutral state , I started to track results for Muskies in the last 5 years and what I seem to notice is that Trolling there is not a lot of difference but if you are casting BIG difference ,could just be a confidence thing that being said I am 80% a troller and 20% casting , If you can get your hands on some "original Fish Formula with sparkle scales" I think you might be pleasantly surprised , when you soak the skirt of a double ten and it hits the water the glitter disperses and looks like scales knocked off a injured bait fish , follow that cast to the same area and it may make a difference , You can make your own scent with liquefied shad or smelt and add your own glitter from a craft store , just don't let your wife catch you using her blender LoL and as Frank stated I swear by scents but I like to think outside the box , hey it works for me |

Location: Wisconsin | I see that Dr.Juice Musky is still out there for purchase. Kinda surprised by that....scents were really big in the 80's and 90's. I remember good old Fish Formula (Anise oil). |

| Chumin rub. Nice and easy and won`t spill in your boat. Dr. Juice is messy but I think it helps sometimes. |

| Don`t get the sparkles on your face. Your wife will think you went to the strip club. Had this happen to my guide in Montreal. I had to explain it was chumming rub sparkle scale lol. I don`t think she really thought he was at the strip joint but was just bustin his chops. Funny though. |

| I spray Gulp Alive on everything I use. Its hard for me to believe that if a musky is following close to a bait that scent wouldn't make a difference. |

| I did up a white medussa with Spike It markers. N landed a 51 n 50" in 10 casts on Vermilion 2 yrs ago. Dont know that the scent helped or not. But it obviously didn't hurt!

Location: Waukesha, WI, USA | My conclusion is scent works better in colder/cooler water temps. For me they loose their effectiveness once water temps are at normal summer levels. I also believe that the faster the lure, the less need for scent. Twitch baits and jerk baits are good candidates for scent.
I recommend scents to clients if for no other reason as a masking agent.

Location: On the Niagara River in Buffalo, NY | This past summer I experimented with a scent called Mikes Shad Oil with UV! Yes, the crankbaits with Mikes Scent on them were hit almost three times as often as those that had no scent. So I use scent all the time now.I use to put muskie crankbaits in the livewell after having walleyes being airated and the slime was left after draining, that seemed to work as well! Down here in the Guyana Rainforest Mikes Scent on Johnson Silver Minnows & Rattletraps out fished the ones with no scent for Arawana & Peacock Bass as well.

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | As Mr. Worrall pointed out yesterday at his New London Musky Magic seminar. "They are dumber than a box of rocks". But, you also have to trick their natural sense's to get them to strike..... they do have a sense of smell!
With that said, I don't think you want to have strange scents on your lure's, e.g., deet, etc. Some fish will eat cheese or even corn, so maybe Cheeto's is not a bad thing! LOL. I carry biodegradable fisherman's soap in my boat and wash my hands well after putting on insect repelents etc. I also don't use or permit spray repelent's in my boat because it gets dispersed all over the boat- the new electronic repelent's may solve this issue. But, do they disperse unwanted scent's to your hands and gear too?
Even if you think scents are BS, just remember there are bad scents! Read this, it might help make you become a better muskie fisherman ->

| totally useless,i've caught 2 nice one that have chosen to bite on a freshly painted wades wobbler.the smell was horrible the paint was orange automotive spray cans,its not easy to find something that stink more than that and in no way a fish that use his sense of smell would have hit on a lure like this.so imo whatever the juice you will add it will be totally useless |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I do, too many times fish have followed a bait came back again just would not commit. I grab the scent on the same bait. I use a paste type, seems to last longer. Does it work 100% of the time nothing does. Have I caught fish using it, YES it was just another piece of the puzzle that triggers to me. |

That is like saying you picked up a hot chick at a bar after working all day on the highway crew, so there is no way a splash of Hai Karate cologne applied to a showered body could ever attract attention.

I've just been looking for a thread to talk about Hai Karate. My bottle is empty though, and cannot find it anywhere. Wife couldn't be happier.
I thought he was saying the apray paint was so strong even they could smell it, and liked it.

| Alot of Ol' timers here in PA swear by skunk hair for their Bucktails, when I asked why skunk hair they look at me like I'm stupid and say "cuz skunks stink and muskys like stinky stuff"!!! So according to some older guys that I know catch alot of fish, muskys have sum kind of sense of smell!!! Seen on Musky Hunter about using Smelly Jelly as well for swim baits!!! Personally I think if you can do anything to help your chances at boatin one y not give it a shot!!! Theirs probably been more useless stuff us musky guys have spent our money on at one time or another, Lord knows I have!!! LOL |

There was an Ol-Timer in Longville, MN I used to fish with now and then. His bucktail box just made ya gag. I swear he'd gut the deer and start tying bucktails! I do know he also tied using roadkills. That made me laugh, he always caught fish though. |
