What are people’s opinions on Tyrant Tackle? It’s not a company that I see brought up often nor do I often see their lures for sale on the BST forums. My dad recently purchased a Crusader, Haley’s Comet, and Lola from Dicks because he had a gift card there but I’m wondering if they will be worth putting in the boat or if we should bring them back?

They're solid lures. Not the highest quality you will find, but for the price point, they're solid. I fish the hell out of their Crusader and Lola. My personal best 46"er came on a Crusader. The Lola can be finicky to tune. You have to play with the front blade a little bit to get both to rotate right. If you have any questions about them, call Smokey's On the Bay (Green Bay location). The owners of that shop, also own Tyrant. I've also had some good success on their "jerk bait". It's a lot like a hard head, just without the versatility of the weight system.
All in all, they're good lures. Don't return them.

Bought a pair of their pliers and a hook file- pliers were mediocre but the file was useless.
Just tossed 'em...

Good company and good baits. They sell only through retailers and big box stores. You will find most of their lures at the local musky shops. The topwaters are very durable. Last I saw they were foam injected lures with through wire and that makes for a very tough bait. JMO

I am sure they are wonderfull peolpe and all but they have always struck me as another one of those companies that simply mimic another companies ideas and sell for less. See for yourself. Lola on the left, Low Rider on the right.

If you knew the back story you'd understand. Pete (former MB owner) asked them to make molds for most of the existing baits so he could make them in plastic, then backed out of the deal and stuck him with the molds and expense. What was he supposed to do?

X2, previous owners skipped out on their bill for $1000s in molds due to other financial issues. Simply put, pay your bills... Probably why MB sold out last year to a new owner. Honestly these lures are better built too. MB should have just paid for what they ordered and they would have had a better and tougher bait IMO.

black_dawg - Not saying anything bad as I know those guys or the bait (I know it catches fish). Their jerkbait is not like a HardHead, it is a different type of bait.

I have several low riders and find myself putting on a Lola almost all the time. I even bought a couple more Lola for this year.

I hadn't heard the story on MB, but did know they stopped making baits about the time Tyrant expanded its products. I was glad to see similar baits being made, especially the Lola. When I look around, I see different companies coming out with baits similar to others already on the market. So, what's the big deal?
