Location: Madison, WI | I just wanted to thank everyone involed with the Winter Muskie School held at Waunakee High School on Saturday. It was the best $24 I have ever spent (with regards to musky fishing anyway). With all of the knowledge gained at this "school", I can't wait for the season to start. All of the instructors at the sessions I attended were top-notch!!!
Thanks a million!

Location: Pewaukee, WI | Ditto! A very well run event. Thanks to all the instructors, who did such a great job. Scott Jenkins with his power point presentation on the Madison chain was worth the trip alone. Pool side demo's were great! (Worrall revealed the secret retreive of the "Dog Turd" top water lure ...how do I get one of those Steve?) The day went to fast...sign me up for next year. C'mon Muskie opener! |

Location: reedsburg wi | A Big Thank You to all the members of CCMI and a very special Thank You to Gerard H. for his generosity to my son at the Musky School yesterday. You've made one "up and coming" musky fisherman very happy! He's still beaming this morning!
Scott Jenkins seminar was excellent. If any of you missed it yesterday, you missed one of the best presentations I have ever seen. Be sure to catch him at another one if you ever have the chance.
Steve W. showed us some triggers at pool side guaranteed to turn followers into eaters.
It's nice to now have faces to go along with some of the names on the site. It was great meeting you guys.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I had a great time, especially with the triggering effect of the crankbait Kevin W was throwing. Donnie got so fired up as he saw it swim by, he jumped in the pool!! (I figured something was up when he taught his unit without any shoes. The folks in that unit were just a tad surprised; in fact most of them just gaped at the water waiting for him to pop up. Funny!!) Sue won a microwave oven in the drawing, which replaced the huge model I had on my counter. I made new friends, leaned alot about Scott's, Kevin's, Lee's and Donnie's favorite tricks, had a great lunch including apple pie and ice cream, delivered a boat, and got home in time to watch a movie; all in one day. Next year we are considering inreasing the class size to accomodate another 75 anglers. If you can be there, DO IT! The Madison Capter of Muskies Inc did a very good job with the event, Steve B and his wife and assistants served a wonderful meal, and over 400 years of combined muskie angling experience was shared. I would guess Gerard spent about $200 on tickets, and then gave some of the stuff he won to the kids. My guess is that including travel, the total amount spent would be under $60 per person. |

Location: Silver Lake, WI | Thanks for the kind words and feedback.
I had a great time. I am sure this School will continue to get bigger and better every year. The Capital City Chapter did a good job of putting this together. I thank them for asking me to be a part of it.
The poolside demo was a lot of fun with Steve Worrall and Lee Tauchen talking about surface baits and jerkbaits. Those in attendance got the secret Squirko tips from both Lee and myself. The Jerko Jr. and the Slammer Drop Belly drew ooohs and aaahs from the crowd as well. Pretty cool. The Pacemaker's unique sounding click click click was a hit also - especially to several folks who were heading to the CHIP and Canada this coming season.
Lee Tauchen demo'd his Top H20 which looked awesome. I don't own one yet, but I certainly will after seeing Lee's demo. It is a great looking bait - similar to a hawg wobbler - but it has a colorado blade on the back. You can work it faster than a hawg wobbler if you want to AND you can figure eight it at the side of the boat. For those of you who have had followers on a hawg wobbler know that once you get to boatside, it is hard to get the bait to react to a boatside maneuver because it wants to roll over if you go to fast. Lee's Top H2O can be figure 8'd on the surface or below the surface. The blade spinning below the surface will keep a following fish interested. You can get them at D & S Bait and Tackle in Madison (WI).
Lunch was great too - complete with apple pie and ice cream!
Thanks again Capital City Chapter!! |

Location: Green Bay, WI | The school was awesome. I only wish I could have seen all of the classes that were available...they all sounded very informative. It was my first year at the school and I will be back next year! I really enjoyed Mr. Worrels poolside demo on how to work the creature. I will be adding that to my arsenal this year. Now its going to be a long wait until the season opener! |

Location: Middleton, WI | Many thanks to everyone who attended, helped arrange this, taught the sessions, and provided assistance at the Waunakee High School. Everyone appeared to be having a really good time and learned a great deal. Now if we can just have a little help from the weather and calendar we'll get out there and put all this excellent information and tips to good use!
We have just tallied up the evaluations and it appears that the audience was very satisfied. We had over 100 students attend and had 98.8% of the respondents [n=82] rate this school overall as being "Very Good" or "Good": the two highest ratings possible!
One of the most common suggestions was that there were too many interesting classes and not enough time to get more classes in. Numerous studnets suggested that next year we add one additional class during the day and/or consider stretching it to 2 days. All classes were well received and earned positive feedback as being extremely useful in learning new things and getting fresh ideas. The instructors have an absolutely incredible depth of experience and have collectively over 400 years of experience muskie fishing! WOW!
Thanks to each and every instructor and in particular to the "way, way beyond the call of duty" efforts and assistance of Kevin Wegner, Steve Worrall, Scott Jenkins, Don Hunt, John Eversoll, and Scot Stewart.
At the closing session it was fun seeing the youthful enthusisam as that young man won a nice reel and bait - he had the entire audience cracking up - it was great! His radiant smile had him beaming ear to ear. That kid is really ready for ice-out! Boy was that generous and considerate of Gerard to give him that nice PackHawk rod that Kevin Wegner and Don Hunt donated! At the closing session in the auditorium you couldn't help but sense the positive energy and anticipation for the upcoming Muskie season. That was made possible only by burning desire to learn more by the students, the hard work and toil of the organizers at CCMI, the High School (Duffy and his helpers in particular)and the hard work, unselfishness and generosity of those Muskie-loving expert instructors -they are top-shelf, first-class all the way - they just don't get any better!!!! 400 years experience and they're learning more each day....
The Capital City Chapter of Muskies Inc. thanks you - everyone! We'll see you next year! |
